All Questions awnserd by Danny except Question 3 is Adam.
1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
Hello there, since the recording and release of new waste Black Wizard has toured our beautiful home land Canada from coast to coast with our good pals Dead Quiet, will be hitting Europe with Joy in October and are almost half way through our U.S. Tour with Volbeat/Killswitch Engaged. We've also started writing new tunes, witch is my favourite part of this hole music thing. Actually tracked a couple demo's before we left too so we are stoked.
2.In January you had released a new album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
With new genres (from my knowledge) pretty much being made up every week, it seem's to be hard to describe you're group in words.
The newest record "New Waste" Is a collection of songs that make up an album. It's inspired by the heavy'er side's of rock and roll and heavy metal. Having the first LP laying out the sound of the group, and then young wisdom bringing a more solidified direction. New Waste turned out having a great balance of both but totally stood on its own just the same. Loud music being played loudly I think might some it up.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
We usually like to keep things pretty cryptic when it comes to lyrical interpretations. We're definitely touching on subjects we have in the past but this time around we're also writing less about personal experiences. Trying to take inspiration through books and stuff in the news now as well. We're living through some pretty crazy times.
4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Black Wizard'?
Black Wizard the name its self was a joke. Adam( Lead Vocals/Rythem Guitar) And Eugene "Russia" (Drums) have been playing together since high school and started the band with that name. Best part is, that name hadn't been taken yet. Now that the tunes and sound of Black Wizard are there, what better way to back it up with your own original name.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
I think I can speak for all of the boy's when are favourite stages and shows are the one's we can be closest to the crowd, shady bars with a good sound system never fails. It's the best being a part of the party. For this years U.S. Tour were opening for Volbeat and Killswitch, witch has a stacked touring schedule of theatre's, outdoor venues and stadiums. Let's not forget the massive crowds that are waiting for one of there favourite bands to come on stage but have to put up with us for a half hour before they get to see them. It's been an absolute blast so far.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We're currently on the road with Volbeat and Killswitch Engaged, then we're hitting Europe in October with Joy.
7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of stoner, doom and heavy metal?
So far so good, a lot of the people I get to talk to after gigs usually bring up at least 2 of those words if not all 3 when there talking about the groups sound. All seems to be positive too, witch is more then anyone could ask for. The best is when someone will bring up a certain tune or part in a song that reminds them of one of your favourite players or bands. It's always dope to hear someone else pick up on your Inspiration's through your music.
8.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?
Yea actually, Russia plays in a hardcore band called Hopeleus. Adam and Even both play in a Syc/Rock band Three Wolf Moon and Even also has a group of his own called The Best Revenge. I have a little death metal project called Klandestīn but the Wiz has been keeping me busy the past couple years witch is sweet, it's always dope to be able to focus on one thing and grow within that.
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Eug and Adam wanted to take it in a heavy'er direction with New Waste, so we're gana go off the momentum of that. Gana try some new ideas we got in the works, while keeping the sound of the band prominent. Me and Adam have a couple riffs that have yet to be brought to the table, so I hope they make the cut and we can get a song or to out of them.
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
