Distant Sun are a band from Russia that plays a mixture of power, speed and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Dark Matter" which will be released on May 30th by Metalism Records.
Acoustic guitars and clean playing which is also used on other songs as well and ethnic sounds start off the album and a few seconds alter heavy guitar riffs and melodic guitar leads start becoming a huge part of the recording and the riffs also bring in a lot of thrash elements and when vocals are added into t he music they are very aggressive yet melodic at the same time.
A lot of modern metal element s can be heard throughout the recording along with a great amount of melody and the vocals also add in a great amount of power metal influences at times and you can also hear a touch of death metal and a small amount of blast beats in some parts of the songs.
Throughout the recording you can hear a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the band also takes element s of early 80's speed metal and updates them for the modern times as well as adding in back up gang shouts at times and there are also a couple of power ballads that demonstrate how clearly the singer can sing at times and some of the tracks also bring in a brief use of spoken word parts which also gives the songs more of an epic feeling.
Distant Sun plays a musical style that takes the old school genres of thrash, power and speed metal and mixes them in with a more modern sound to update these genres for the modern day, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover science fiction, space travel, mysticism, fantasy and adventure.
In my opinion Distant Sun are a very great sounding mixture of power, speed and thrash metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Kill The Freman" "Matrix Hacked" "Gifts Of Journey" and "Zero The Hero". 8 out of 10.
