Salem's Lott are a band from Los Angeles, California that plays a mixture of speed metal and shock rock and this is a review of their self titled 2014 ep which was released by Red Moon Records.
A very hard and heavy 80's style metal sound starts off the album along with some rock orientated guitar leads being mixed in quite a bit throughout the songs and when vocals are added into the music they are all clean singing and th e songs mix glam, heavy and speed metal together and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
At times the vocals bring in elements of power metal and the songs at times sound like they could of easily been recorded and released 30 years ago and also have a touch of the more commercial side of that era while the music is a little bit more dark and heavy to completely fall in that category and after awhile clean playing can be hear d in certain sections of the recording and some of the tracks bring in the heaviness of thrash while a later track is an instrumental along with the closing song being in the same direction followed by a track that introduces spoken word parts and keyboards onto the recording.
Salem's Lott plays a musical style that combines speed and heavy metal with the more catchier sides of shock and glam metal but adding in a lot more darkness and anger to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very old school yet professional at the same time while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Salem's Lott are a very great sounding mixture of shock rock and speed metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Wings Of Durness" and "Black Magic". 8 out of 10.
