Groan are a band from the United Kingdom that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of stoner and doom metal and this is a review of their 2015 ep "Highrospliffics" which will be released on March 23rd by Superhot Records.
A very heavy bass guitar sound and reverb starts off the ep before adding in melodic guitar riffing that takes the music more into a stoner metal direction once clean singing vocals are added onto the recording and the solos and leads also remain true to a retro style of metal while the production and the way the band approach's their music sounds more modern.
You can hear the heaviness of doom metal in all of the tracks and they also bring influences from that genre all the way from the early 70's to modern day and mix them together and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction and the whole ep is heavy from beginning to end with no soft or clean parts ever being utilized.
Groan remain true to their mixture of stoner and doom metal on this recording creating 4 songs that are very heavy yet melodic at the same time, the production sound s very professional while the lyrics cover heavy metal, darkness, paganism and occultism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Groan and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Witchfinder General Finder" and "March Of the Druids'. 8 out of 10.
