Putrid Blood Interview

  1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
We are currently working on a video for the song song called “Silovanje”, from our new album Absolute Profit - a song about bad taste and lies served by the television these days. Video is in the final stage of editing and it is about to come out in a week or two. Also, we are already  working on the songs for the next album and, since we don’t have an official website yet, we will start working on that in the near future.

2.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album and how it differs from previous releases?
New album is basically old school thrash metal with more aggressive and direct sound. We were going for raw and “evil” sound, but also clean mix, and sound that reflects our live performance and playing style.  There are also many other influences in our music – black metal, death metal, hardcore and even some Serbian folk music. It is more interesting for us to add flavor of other styles and bring unique blend of Putrid Blood. We think that new release is step up compared to the previous, in terms of arrangements, aggression, speed and production.

  3. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new release?
New economic crisis grinded already lapsed and weakened Serbian economy. Many people are on the verge of poverty, young people can’t find job while rich bloodsuckers are getting more rich, more greedy by every additional dollar they make and corrupted politicians are doing nothing to make things better. Anger towards that all is great source of inspiration and most of the lyrics from new album are based on those themes. Other lyrics are inspired by movies, horror stories (Re-Animator is based on H.P. Lovecraft’s story of same name - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3Gv7SVGtHk ), comics, etc.

4What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
We were trying to come up with a name that no other band used and, as big fans of Slayer, we came across the fraze “putrid blood” in the song called “God Send Death” from “God hates Us All” album. It sounded cool at the time and it still does. The name perfectly fits our music style and we are still the only Putrid Blood in the world.

 5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
It is very difficult to single out a couple of good gigs among so many. Best gigs I remember were in; Auris club in Novi Sad, (the mosh pit was so intense, that the club was demolished and closed after that gig); gig at Exit Festival 2012., where we have shared a stage with legendary D.R.I.; gig in Sarajevo at “Summer Metal Fest” with Benighted; gig in Belgrade with Warbringer; gigs in Kula and Subotica…
Our show in Sremska Mitrovica at “Enter Fest” 2011. will be remembered by an interesting detail - spontaneous combustion of guitar amplifier during first song, called Fire At Will - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7BTo9EZvXpM .
When performing live, we like to give as more energy and aggression as possible because we believe that it is the way that metal music is supposed to be played and presented.

6. Do you have any touring plans for the future?
We are currently negotiating a few gigs in next two months and we are planning to tour more in the time to come to properly promote our new album. The only confirmed gig so far is “Invasion From The East” Miner fest, which will take place in Novi Sad, Serbia at Club Quarter on March 29th and 30th(we play on the 30th). We like to play gigs very much so we are looking forward to all that.

7. Currently you are signed to Miner Records, how did you get in contact with this label and how would you describe the support they have given you so far?
We got in contact with Miner Records about a year ago, regarding “Invasion From The East” compilation, that features a lot of great bands from ex-Yugoslav countries (mostly from Serbia). Title song from our demo “Fire At Will” is featured on that compilation and it is available via www.miner-records.com orhttp://www.facebook.com/MinerRecords
In last week of September 2012, just few days after the recording process of our first full-length album “Absolute Profit” was done, we have published first single from that album, called “Kontraudar” on our official Youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/PutridBlood1). Milan Radosavljević from Miner Records heard the song and approached us, to see if we were interested in record deal. He offered us great conditions and we made an arrangement very fast, so our album was officily released in the last week of November 2012. The co-operation with Miner Records has been great so far and, hopefully, it will be like that in the future.

 8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your newer music by fans of thrash metal?
Actually, response from both fans and critics is very good. There has been a dozen of very positive reviews, and many fans praised the new album via metal forums, our official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/putridblood) and other social networks. I think that songs on Serbian language are exotic and interesting for the English and other non-Serbian speaking fans.

  9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
When making new songs, we want to have fun first and it is most important that we like the stuff that we are doing. We are going to continue to experiment with different styles, different tunings, equipment etc. Our new material sounds more raw and black metal then previous releases by my opinion, but still has unique Putrid Blood signature. We have just started to compose new songs and who knows in which direction our work will go to.

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
The most influential bands for us are Kreator, Slayer, Sepultura, Dissection, many other Norwegian and Swedish black metal bands like Immortal, Darkthrone and Dark Funeral, NY based hardcore bands like Pro-Pain, Biohazard, Madball and Cro-Mags and also, many death metal bands.
Nowadays I listen to a lot of black metal and a lot of blues. Currently I am listening to Taake’s album Noregs vaapen from 2011. and I recommend it to everyone.

 11. Does Occultism play any role in your music?
We have some interest in occult and it is reflected in some of our lyrics, especially on our “Fire At Will” demo (songs like Arrival, Dying and The End). It is not much represented on our album “Absolute Profit”, because, as mentioned before, we mostly deal with social themes in our songs.

 12. Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Outside of music, we all have day jobs, because you can’t make a living of any kind of alternative music, especially in Serbia. There are six of us and we all have different interests: sports, video games, music production, movies, etc.

13. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Support bands that you like, go to their shows, buy a CD or a T-shirt – don’t just “like” them on Facebook. It is very to difficult to create good albums nowadays and any kind of support means a lot to us and helps us to move forward.
