Mortalicum are a band from Sweden that mixes traditional doom metal with classic rock/metal and this is a review of t heir 2012 album "The Endtime Prophecy" which was released by Metal On Metal Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with no fast drumming or blast beats being present on t his recording, while the bass playing has a very dark tone with riffs that follow the riffing that is coming out of the guitars and at times they have a very powerful sound to them, as for the synths t hey are only used briefly on one song and they bring a dark sound to the music.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine traditional doom metal with classic rock and traditional metal with a good amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing as well as a brief use of soft and clean playing, while the lead guitars are very melodic and 70's sounding traditional metal/rock guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars which are only used on a couple of songs they use finger picking and full chords to add a more old school sound to the music .
Vocals are all clean singing classic metal vocals, while the lyrics cover dark and apocalypse themes that touch on religion and occultism, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy and old school sound to it where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Mortalicum are a very great sounding hybrid of traditional doom and classic rock/metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Mt Dying Soul" "When Hell Freezes Over" "Devil's Hand" and "Embracing Our Doom". RECOMMENDED BUY.
