God Root are a band from Pennsylvania that plays a mixture of sludge, doom, avant garde and post metal and this is a review of their 2017 ep "Salt And Rot" which will be released on July 11th by Horror Pain Gore Death Productions.
Cinematic soundscapes start off the ep along with some avant garde elements a few seconds later while the drum beats give the songs more of a tribal and shamanistic feeling along with some melodic yet ritualistic chanting also being used at times and after the intro the music goes into more of a heavier sludge and doom metal direction.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the solos and leads are done in more of a melodic post metal fashion and after awhile aggressive sludge style screams make their presence known and clean guitars are also added into certain sections of the recording and melodic vocals are also utilized at times and blast beats are also utilized briefly while one song also adds in a small amount of distorted drones as well as an improve feeling.
God Root plays a musical style that takes sludge, doom, and post metal and mixes with avant garde to create something very original and shamanistic, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover personal stories.
In my opinion God Root are a very great sounding mixture of avant garde, sludge, doom, and post metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "From Hounds To Silent Skies" and "Conscious Disease". 8 out of 10.
