1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of the new full length?
We have been preparing for its release, as well as playing shows and writing new songs. We are preparing for some extensive touring in the summer while gigging in and around Minnesota.
2.You have a full length coming out this year, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording and also how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
I think that performance wise we are much stronger. As a lineup, we have been together since 2012, and we have certainly come a long way.
A good portion of the songs were written when I was 15 years old, but have changed over time as my skills and the skills of everyone in the band have changed. The recording is defiantly a major improvement over our past efforts, both musically and production wise.
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
I write about things that I encounter in my day to day life for the most part. Occasionally I will get into story telling mode, but for the most part I write about how I feel.
4.Originally the band was known as 'Sludge' what was the decision behind the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Wicked Inquisition'?
The name "Sludge" was awful and we needed something to accurately fit the vibe we were going for.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
One of our best shows was opening for The Skull in Milwaukee last December. I am a huge Trouble fan and it was certainly an honor to share the stage with musicians I hold in high regard. I think performance wise we were at or near 100% and the audience responded overwhelmingly well to our performance. Our stage performance is certainly high energy. We do not have any sort of gimmicks when on stage; its raw emotion, I think.
6.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
Lots of extensive touring being planned at the moment to support this album, though no definite booked dates just yet.
7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of doom metal?
I don't know if our music has reached the ears of worldwide listeners, but from what I have seen the response has been pretty good. That being said, I think that once the album is released people are really going to dig what we are doing. We have matured musically in so many ways and I think the album is an accurate display of this. Our stage show has also improved drastically.
8.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part off?
The only member that is involved in another musical project is Jack, who is in a post hardcore band called A Moment In Time. Sort of a different vibe from what we are doing, but Jack is a very versatile musician who can adapt to different styles very well. Even though his drumming is rooted in things outside of our immediate style, I think that it adds a certain flavor to what we are doing in a very good way.
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Gigging as much as possible and recording more music.
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Well, even though the music is new to the public, most of the songs were written when I was younger, as I said earlier. But there has defiantly been a vast array of influenced that I think show on this album, specifically bands like Black Sabbath, Trouble, Budgie, and Spirit Caravan. Lately I have been listening to lots of Trouble, 70's era Judas Priest, Lucifers Friend, and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. I could name influences forever
though.
11.How would you describe your views on Occultism?
That's a conversation for another day... and a very long one at that! haha! If your referring to music, then what I will say is that in some ways the whole "occult rock" or whatever thing is getting boring. Always singing about Satan and other dark things is getting tiresome. That isn't to say I don't appreciate some of these bands. But I always end up gravitating towards old school doom, which has always had Christian themesattached to it. Actually, the title for our song "Black Magik Nacht" is suppose to be joke; a purposeful cliche. I consider myself a hippie at heart.
Live by the golden rule.
12.What are some of your non musical interests?
Watching good movies. Though music is a massive interest!
13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Just want to take this moment to thank everyone who has supported us/continues to support us. And if you are just hearing us for the first time, I hope ya dig!
