Fangs Of The Molossus are a band from Italy that plays a very psychedelic form of doom metal and this is a review of their self titled 2015 album which was released by Italian Doom Metal Records.
A very 70's doom metal orientated sound starts off the album along with a good balance between heaviness and melody and after a couple of minutes acoustic guitars and psychedelic sounds can be heard in certain sections of the recording along with a great amount of clean singing vocals and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
70's style organs can be heard at times and the solos also remain true to a retro doom metal sound and most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and as the album progresses spoken word samples can be heard in some parts of the songs and the vocals can also be very rough at times while also staying melodic and they also bring a very modern vibe to a retro style of doom metal and all of the songs also stick to a very slow yet heavy musical direction.
Fangs Of The Molossus takes a very traditional almost 70's style of doom metal and they also mix in a touch of psychedelia and occult rock to create an album that is very true to the Italian style of doom metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover horror movies, occultism, Roman Mythology and science fiction themes.
In my opinion Fangs Of The Molossus are a very great sounding psychedelic doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Cult of the Witch Goddess" and "Dead King Rise". 8 out of 10.
