1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are a Thrash n' roll band from the south-shore of Montreal made-up of 4 hard working, hard drinking, hard partying bad-asses...Pete(guitars), Oli(vocals), Guillaume(bass), Pascal(drums)... We started the band about 5 years ago and we just wanted to jam and have a good time forgetting our routine, we never really planned on making an album or doing any shows until all of our friends started telling us we had a great sound and good chemistry... We started doing shows three years ago and decided to record the album since everything was sounding awesome... And we are glad we did
2.Recently you had released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about your musical style/
We didn't really know what our style of music was until somebody we know baptized it thrash n'roll... before that we would just tell people it's Citizen Vicious because we were aiming to make our own sound... it's a melting pot of inspiration and all the members of the band have different musical backgrounds from classic rock to extreme metal, so we decided everyone would have their say in the composing of the music...
3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
We try to avoid any political or religious inspired lyrics to avoid conflicts in the band... we all have our own opinions on those subjects so we decided to write about more simple every-man subjects like beer(shit-faced), women/relationships (thunder-cunt), work(tonight), death(the reaper) and so on...
4.What is the meaning an inspiration behind the name 'Citizen Vicious'?
Citizen Vicious is kind of like an oxymoron inspired by our everyday lives being party animals... we all have full time jobs, houses, some of us kids, and it was the best name we found to portray that image of working all day and getting hammered at night as soon as we can... We would never put our responsabilities aside for anything but some days it can get pretty hard and very tempting to just quit everything to jam and get shit-faced all day... so that's what Citizen Vicious is all about.
5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
All of our shows have really been awesome so far but playing at the Foufounes Electriques in montreal was a great experience since we all grew up getting drunk there... Opening for Grim Skunk and Dance Laury Dance were also very cool shows... also our latest show down in Toronto was a Fucking blast partying with The Rough Boys and Black Absinthe...As for describing our stage-presence, I would say very energetic, hard pounding, and lots of beer !!! we are there to have fun and rock out, not to show people how talented we are or show off our latest over-expensive piece of useless gear...
6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Of course, we will take any offers that will come up if they dont involve spending money we dont have or putting our families aside for a long period of time.
7.The new album came out on Hellstorm Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Hellstorm Recordz is a new label in Montreal started by a buddy of ours who is the kind of guy who would sell his soul to help out the underground scene, the label is all about that... helping new bands and musicians get some exposure without going bankrupt through social medias, word-to-mouth and pretty much anything he can do to help... it's not the same principle as other labels since there is no contract involved... We pay him if he sells the albums... its as easy as that and much less headaches in the long run.
8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal, punk, and rock?
We have been getting alot of excellent reviews for the albums and the shows in Quebec and Canada... as for Worldwide I couldnt tell you because we havent promoted the band on that scale.. but we have a couple fans from all over who talk to us via facebook who are telling us that the band is awesome so I guess in a couple years we could be the biggest band in the world or maybe just the same as we are today... either way, we had way too much fun to regret anything (or remember in some cases)
9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
As I said before, we'll take any offers that come up, we would love to tour Europe and the states but we need to make sure we can cover our home expenses and feed our kids before buying a van and a case of beer and hitting the road... One thing you can be sure of is Citizen Vicious is here to stay as long as we can afford it and our livers keep working lol :)
10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Motorhead, Pantera, Nashville Pussy, Peter Pan Speedrock to name a few but to name all of them would take 20 pages of writing so we'll stick to saying anything that rocks hard and fast...
11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Sex, Whiskey,mini-putt, mah-jong, wearing womens underwear (just kiddin) , Barbecues, partying with buddys, getting drunk and laughing at Emo/core Kids, Playing with our kids and families, Jamming on wednesdays religiously... besides that we are pretty normal guys with slight brain damage...
12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We're here to rock your soul, sex and whiskey will never get old... and thanks to you folks for the interview and all the fans who keep coming to our shows and giving us the awesome feedback we've been getting so far!!! Cheers headbangers from everyone in the Citizen Vicious family ...
