Wolf Counsel are a band from Switzerland that has been featured before in this zine and plays doom metal with some elements of stoner and sludge metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Age Of Madness/Reign Of Chaos" which was released by Czar Of Crickets Productions.
Distorted amp sounds start off the album before going into more of a heavier doom metal direction along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic fashion as well as the vocals being done mostly in a clean fashion.
Spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the music also mixing in elements of stoner and sludge metal and while the music has a lot of retro influences it still maintains a very modern atmosphere as well as some tracks also bringing in a small amount of clean guitars and as the album progresses a brief use of female vocals can also be heard and the music always sticks to a very slow direction.
Wolf Counsel creates another recording that remains true to the doom metal style of previous releases while also mixing in touches of sludge and stoner metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover spirituality, mysticism and philosophical themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Wolf Counsel and if you are a fan of doom metal with a touch of stoner and sludge metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Semper Occultus" "Eternal Solitude" and "Remembrance". 8 out of 10.
