Iron Monkey are a band from the United Kingdom that plays a mixture of sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "9-13" which was released by Relapse Records.
A crust punk influenced d beat sound starts off the album along with some screaming style sludge screams a few seconds later while the slower sections of the songs bring in a great amount of doom metal elements as well as the music being very heavily rooted in the 90's sludge style.
At times the music brings in more of a southern and stoner metal feeling while all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them along with the deeper vocals bringing in more of a crust and hardcore style and as the album progresses a small amount of d beats can also be heard as well as the riffs also bringing in a small amount of melody, guitar leads can also be heard briefly and the last track is very long and epic in length
Iron Monkey plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in sludge metal while elements of d beat and crust punk can be heard at times, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover sickness, drugs and humour themes.
In my opinion Iron Monkey are a very great sounding sludge metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Crown Of Electrodes" "Toadcrucifier-R.I.P.P.E.R" "The Rope" and "Moreland St. Hammervortex". 8 out of 10.
