Lo! are a band from Australia that plays a mixture of sludge and post metal and this is a review of their 2017 album "Vestigal" which will be released in October by Pelagic Records.
Rain and thunder sounds start off the album along with some atmospheric sounding drones and sludge style screams before going into a heavier direction which also uses a decent amount of blast beats while also mixing in elements of hardcore and post metal along with the riffs also bringing in a decent amount of melody.
All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also bring in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads being done in more of a dark distorted fashion and clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and some tracks also add in elements of crust and d beat and as the album progresses spoken word parts, black metal elements, and psychedelic style keyboards can be heard briefly.
Lo! plays a musical style that takes sludge, hardcore and post metal and mixes them together to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover man's natural relationship with the world.
In my opinion Lo! are a very great sounding mixture of sludge, hardcore and post metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hall Of Extinct Mammals" "Locust Christ" "Judas Steer' and "Gods Of Ruin". 8 out of 10.
