Poison Idea are a band from Portland, Oregon that has been featured before in this zine and plays hardcore punk with a thrash edge and this is a review of t heir 2015 comeback album "Confuse & Conquer" which will be released in April by Southern Lord Recordings.
A very fast and aggressive thrash punk sound starts off the album along with a brief guitar lead which are also used quite a bit throughout the recording before adding in aggressive yelling hardcore style vocals and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and the music also remains true to the hardcore punk sound of previous recordings.
While the music has the sound of the 80's the production gives the music more of a modern day feeling and one of the tracks also brings in a brief use of pianos before making a return back to a hard and heavy musical direction and some of the tracks also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
At times both the riffs and vocals have a melodic edge to them along with a touch of old rock'n'roll elements and you can also heat melodies in the guitar leads at times along with some songs also bringing in a small amount of spoken word parts and closer to end one of the songs also brings in clean playing, slide guitars and rockabilly/country influence's before closing the album with 2 aggressive hardcore punk songs.
Poison Idea creates another very aggressive hardcore punk album and also show they can still compete with the younger bands of this genre even after bring away all these years, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover angry and real life themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Poison Idea and if you are a fan of this band, you should enjoy this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Bog" "Hypnotic" "I Never Heard Of You" and "Beautiful Disaster". 8 out of 10.
