Viajando are a band from North Carolina that plays a mixture of doom and stoner metal with a touch of sludge and punk and this is a review of their self released 2015 ep "Counting Days".
A very dark and heavy stoner metal sound starts off the ep along with all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them and a few seconds later clean singing vocals become a huge part of the recording and the music also mixes in a great amount of traditional doom metal elements.
At times the vocals use aggressive sludge style shouts and when the music gets more up beat you can hear elements of hardcore punk in the bands musical sound and when solos and leads are utilized they bring in even more of a retro and stoner rock feeling to the tracks they are utilized on and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Viajando takes the stoner rock and doom metal genres and mixes them together along with a stuff of sludge and punk as well as a great amount of melody to create some very dark, retro and heavy music, the production sound s very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Viajando are a very great sounding mixture of stoner and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Hell's Pit" and "Sleeper". 8 out of 10.
