Alucarda are a band from Denmark that plays a mixture of doom metal, sludge and garage punk and this is a review of their 2015 cassette "Raw Howls" which was released by Caligari Records.
A very dark, raw and distorted garage punk sound starts off the album along with a very retro 70's style feeling that comes out of the solos and leads and after awhile the music starts mixing in the heaviness of doom metal and sludge and the vocals have an 80's hardcore punk feeling to them when they are added into the music.
Throughout the recording their is a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts with the slower sections being in a doom/sludge direction and the faster sections bringing in the raw energy of punk rock and all of the songs have an old school feeling to them and some of the tracks also bring in a small amount of spoken word samples.
Alucarda plays a style of doom metal and sludge that they mix with garage punk to create a sound of their own and they also avoid all modern trends, the production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Exploitation & Biker Films, Occultism and Horror themes.
In my opinion Alucarda are a very great sounding mixture of doom metal, sludge and garage punk and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Northville Cemetery" Temptress of Evil" and "Witches Dance". 8 out of 10.
