Bakken are a band from Ireland which have been featured before in this zine that plays a mixture of thrash and power metal and this is a review of their self released 2014 ep "Worldwide Genocide".
A very dark avant garde sound starts off the ep before going into a heavier direction along with some powerful sounding bass guitars and melodic guitar leads which leads up to more of an old school power/thrash metal direction and a few seconds later melodic yet rough vocals start to kick in.
Back up shouts can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the solos also have a German power metal feeling to them at times and the band also brings in a mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the guitar riffing and vocals being closer to the American and Canadian style of power and thrash metal and the bass leads on the ep have a very powerful presence when they are utilized and on the last track acoustic guitars and keyboards are added into the music for a few seconds.
Bakken remains true to their power/thrash metal sound on this ep as well as having a good balance between melody and heaviness, the production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover darkness and mythology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Bakken and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Evil Walks This Way" and "Gaia". 8 out of 10.
