Komatsu are a band from the Netherlands that has been featured before in this zine and plays stoner metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Manu Armata" which was released by Blindsight Records.
A very dark and hard sound starts off the album and the music slowly starts getting heavier shortly after that along with some melodic stoner rock vocals and the music has a retro hard rock and metal vibe to it along with some 70's style melodies and the music also has the heaviness of doom metal.
When the album goes into later songs guitar solos are added in the bands musical style and they are in the more fuzzy and stoner rock direction while also utilizing a great amount of melody and all of the songs stick to mostly a slow or mid paced direction as well as having the energy of punk rock at times and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and some of the alter tracks utilize a small amount of drones while the main focus remains on a heavy and hard retro metal/rock sound and some of the tracks bring in spoken word samples and a mixture of both clean and heavy parts and the last song has some acoustic guitars and psychedelic elements being added into the bands musical style.
Komatsu creates a very energetic and heavy style of stoner metal with their hard and retro sound as well as adding in the heaviness of doom metal and the energy of punk rock, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Komatsu are a very great sounding stoner metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "New Low" "Lean On Me" "When Wolves Cry" and "Evil Be Gone". 8 out of 10.
