Night Demon Interview

1.1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

We have recently released our self titles debut E.P. via Shadow Kingdom and Reining Records.  We have shows in L.A. And Vegas this coming October with Diamond Head and Raven.  We are also confirms to play the Keep It True Metal fest in Germany April 2014.

We enter the studio in October to record a full length record.  We have a van and are ready to tour when the opportunity comes up.  All good stuff!

2. How would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the new ep?

Loud, raw, honest, heavy, melodic, street!

3. The lyrics cover alot of occult subjects, how would you describe your views on Occultism?

I grew up in a Christian environment for most of my youth.  I was always fascinated by the darker side of life.  Every time the occult was brought up in my surroundings, it excited me how much these idiots would live in fear of the unknown.  I have studies the satanic bible, I'm in to Lovecraft horror, etc., but really none of those people were true evil.  They were just individuals who had they're own beliefs about life.  Not to harm anyone.  If anything, the bible is a great subject to write about.  Anytime you want to find real life horror and death, always look at the wars and crimes the bible consistently influences!

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?

We were originally going to call the band "The Chalice", but we decided " "Ancient Evil" would be better.  That also got thrown out the window and those names eventually became song titles.  At first with Night Demon as a name, I was thinking "Knight Demon", but that's a little too medieval for the imagery of a street band like ourselves.  We got lucky with the name Night Demon.  I still can't believe there wasn't another metal band in history that thought of that name.  At that point, we couldn't let go of it.  It was just too good.

5. What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

We've had some fun ones in our hometown of Ventura, CA, but most notably some of the L.A. Shows we've done have been most memorable.  We get respect out there from the metal community.  It means a lot to us, seeing as how new of a band we are.

The live show if pretty loud, but not unpleasantly overbearing.  You can expect smoke machines, special lighting, Marshall full stacks, and flying V's!  Eventually we will get into more theatrics, but this phase of the band is all about a stage that looks like your in the fires of hell, and 3 demons envoking the power of rock and roll!

6. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yes, we will be playing in L.A. and Vegas in October 2013 with Diamond Head and Raven.  this is a dream show for us.  if the band ended there i would be satisfied going out on the bill with those bands.
We will be touring Europe in April 2014.  With the anchor date being the Keep It True metal Fest

Other than that, we're ready to roll when something good comes out way.

7. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of old school metal?

Very spread out!  Our band is about as underground as you can get right now, so there has yet to be this global explosion of Night Demon t shirts and branding etc.  however, it seems we ship mail order to an equal amount of people in the states as we do in Germany, U.K., France, Norway, and Greece.

8. What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Brent and John are still playing in The Fucking Wrath.  The band is not actively touring and only playing occasional regional shows due to the singer Craig's wife in the middle of a bout with cancer.  I do know they are working on a new E.P. when they get opportunities to work on stuff.

Stop Breathing, the band John sings in recently released a new E.P.  they will probably also make a new record sometime this year, or early next.

9. What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

A better, tighter version of what we are on the E.P.  I can't imagine a far different musical direction, but the E.P. is really a demo of a band that was together for 2 weeks.  I like the results for what they are, but those songs deserve time and focus that they didn't receive the first time they were recorded

10. What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

First off, in my generation you always have to thank Metallica, first.  They were the band that broke through the mainstream with some really great albums early in their career.  if it wasn't for them, myself and most if the rest if thw world would have never heard bands like Diamond Head, and the rest of the NWOBHM bands and scene.  My personal ones are Diamond Head, Thin Lizzy. Tygers of Pan Tang, and UFO, and Maiden.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Nothing

12. Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

We are Night Demon!  We have formed this band in the present time to bring back the true elements of hard rock and heavy metal.  We are a band built for our fans.  We are very fortunate to have such die hard fans this early in our career.  We are fans of great music, so we know what it should like, and so do our fans.  We love the closeness with them, and will keep putting out music that they want to hear and is acceptable to them.  Without them Night Demon inly exists in dreamland.  Thank you and good night
