Dogs For Breakfast Interview

Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
Everything is going right, we’re working for next season, we’re speaking for some italian and European gigs, meanwhile we’re writing two new songs cause we’ll be out this winter with a split.

.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?
Well…I have read every kind of title for The Sun Left These Places’s sound, so can’t give it a name, but we think is a mix of some kind of components like noise, metal, hardcore and a right amount of experimentation.

What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
We love write about love, death, passion and everything moves feelings in the human mind. In this brand new album there’s an underlying theme: the darkness. The lyrics are a collection of tales about situations and episodes where darkness feel on the characters. There are a tribute to Billie Holiday (The Lady) and one to Skip James (Cypress Grove Blues), too.
Two good examples of love, death, passion and lives lived in darkness.

What is the meaning and inspiration behind the bands name?
There are no special hidden meanings, only it sounds good.

What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?
Well…Every show is intense and addictive for us, so we really love play on stage and I can’t identify a particular show. Our shows are intense, strong, vigorous and professional.

Do you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
We played some Italian gigs and in these days we’re working on some European tours, we’re trying to close two tours for next fall, but is not easy, then if anyone is interested in one of our show, can write us.

The new album came out on both Subsound Records and Escape From Today, do you feel that working with 2 different labels is a huge benefit for the band?
Certanly. Both labels are small labels, so it’s important to join forces and money.

On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal and hardcore?
We play for many years, but the band and the name are young, so we’re working to promote us. In that countries when we have important distributions like Uk, Germany, France, Belgium and Holland is good, we can get reviews and interviews and people write us to inquire, we’re getting in touch with many people in Europe. We sell some albums in USA too, but is more complicate there.

Are there any other musical projects besides this band or is this a full time line up?
For me (Fabio) and Paolo is the only one band, Andrea, however, plays in some other bands.

What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
We don’t know exactly, but certainly we’ll work hard to develop the sound we met in this last album, in particular in songs like Red Flowers, January 21 and Vision.

What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
We have very different backgrounds, we’re listening to countless albums, bands, genres, we all love metal, rock, but so jazz, blues, folk and electronic. For example, in metal/rock scene we’re listen to Red Fang’s records at this moment…
Many bands have influenced and influence our music every day, an example? Black Sabbath.

Outside of music what are some of your interests?
Oh…nice question, unusual. We all love arts, food, cinema and girls, but for me and my brother Paolo the first interest is to practice Downhill. Andrea studies music and plays in several bands.

Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
Hope to meet Dogs For Breakfast on your way!
Bye.
