This is a review of a split ep between U.S.A's Escape Is Not Freedom and dusK Village which will be self released in February and we will start off the review with Escape Is Not Freedom a band that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of sludge metal, grunge and noise rock.
Their side of the split starts out with a very heavy sludge metal sound that is very heavily rooted in the early 90's while the vocals are semi melodic and also add in a touch of grunge along with the riffing also mixing in elements of noise rock as well as all of the musical instruments having a very powerful sound to them.
The riffs also bring in a decent amount of melody while the second track is very long and epic in length and also brings in a small amount of acoustic guitars and female vocals and the music always sticks either to a slow or mid tempo direction and when gutiar solos are utilized they are done in a very melodic fashion, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover real life themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Escape Is Not Freedom and if you are a fan of sludge metal, grunge and noise rock, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "We're Wrecked".
Next up is dusK Village a band that plays a mixture sludge metal and punk rock.
Their side of the split starts out with clean playing and melodic guitar leads along with some angry sludge style screaming vocals a few seconds later while the riffs also bring in a decent amount of dark sounding melodies along with the riffs also mixing in the heaviness of doom metal and on the second track elements of punk are added into the music, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover real life themes.
In my opinion dusK Village are a very great sounding mixture of sludge metal and punk rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACK "A Self Fan".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and would recommend it to all fans of sludge metal, punk, grunge and noise rock. 8 out of 10.
