Onslaught are a band from t he United Kingdom that has been around since the early 80's and started out as hardcore punk before going into a death/thrash metal style and on this recording they evolved more into a mixture of power, thrash and speed and this is a review of their 1989 album "In Search Of Sanity" which was re-issued in 2017 by Dissonance.
A very dark and atmospheric sounding intro starts off the album along with some synths and on the second track the music goes into more of a heavier thrash and speed metal direction along with some melodic guitar leads while t he riffs also bring in a great amount of melody.
Vocals are done in a very clean power metal style while also capturing some of the thrash style aggressiveness and some of the tracks are very long and epic in length and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful and back up gang shouts are also utilized at times and they also bring in a cover of AC/DC's "Let There Be Rock" and the power ballad also introduces acoustic guitars onto the recording and the re-issue also brings in bonus live tracks.
On this recording Onslaught moved away from the death and thrash metal style of previous releases and went for more of a power, speed and thrash metal mixture, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Metal, Insanity and Society themes.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Onslaught and if you are a fan of power, speed and thrash metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "In Search Of Sanity" "Lightning War" and "Welcome To Dying". 8 out of 10.
