Castle are a band from San Francisco, California that plays a traditional style of doom metal with some elements of 70's rock and this is a review of their 2016 album "Welcome To The Graveyard" which will be released in July by Van Records.
A very hard and heavy sound starts off the album bringing in a mid 70's style of metal along with a more modern production and a few seconds later female vocals make their presence known on the recording and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them and male vocals can also be heard at times.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they remain true to a 70's style of metal while the riffs also mix in the heaviness of traditional doom metal and as the album progresses the music starts incorporating more elements of 70's classic and occult rock and some songs also bring in a small amount of clean playing while all of the heavier riffs stick to either a slow or mid paced musical direction.
Castle plays a musical style that takes the doom metal, occult and hard rock genres and mixes them together for the more modern times, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and is also very inspired by the writings of Aleister Crowley and Eliphas Levi while also mixing in a touch of medieval witchcraft.
In my opinion Castle are a very great sounding mixture of doom metal and 70's rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Black Widow" "Flesh of the Pentagram" and "Down into the Cauldron Blog". 8 out of 10.
