30.000 Monkies are a band from Belgium that plays a mixture of sludge, doom metal, drone and noise rock and this is a review of their 2016 album "I Ate Myself To Grow Twice As Big" which was released by Consouling Sounds.
Heavy guitars and aggressive vocals start off the album and a few seconds later melodic post rock style guitar leads are added onto the recording along with some experimental elements also being utilized with the riffs also mix in the heaviness of sludge and doom metal and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and the music also mixes in a great amount of noise rock elements and on track also brings in a brief use of melodic chanting while most of the songs also sound very different from each other along with some drones also being added into certain sections of the recording and some tracks also bring in the energy of punk. while some songs also bring in a brief use of spoken word parts and when synths are utilized they also give the music more of an avant garde and psychedelic feeling and the last track is very long and epic in length.
30,000 Monkies plays a musical style that takes the heaviness of sludge and doom metal and mixes it with drones, experimental music and noise rock to create something very original, the production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover dark, angry and real life themes.
In my opinion 30,000 Monkies are a very great sounding mixture of drone, sludge, doom metal and noise rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Melina" "Apollo 10" and "Juice". 8 out of 10.
