Manipulate are a band from New York that plays a metallic form of positive hardcore and this is a review of their 2016 ep "Becoming Madnees" which was released by Flagspot Records.
Clean guitar playing starts off the ep and after a few seconds melodic guitar leads are added onto t he recording along with some spoken word samples and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to t hem and after awhile the music gets more heavy and goes for more of a hardcore style.
A lot of the riffing also brings in the heaviness of thrash while most of t he songs are very short in length and the vocals are done in an aggressive style of hardcore while the faster sections of the songs bring in a small amount of blast beats and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and there is also a small amount of shouting vocals.
Manipulate plays a style of hardcore that is very heavy in the New York tradition while also adding in a touch of crossover to create a very heavy style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover social political themes.
In my opinion Manipulate are a very great sounding hardcore band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Beaten Path" and "Manipulate". 8 out of 10.
