The Dread Crew Of Oddwood are a band from California that plays an acoustic form of folk/pirate metal which they refer to as 'heavy mahogany' and this is a review of their self released 2016 album "Lawful Evil".
Acoustic guitars and folk instruments start off the album and they also bring in the aggression of metal along with some aggressive vocals and the music does its best of bringing in the heaviness without having any distortion and the energy of punk rock can also heard in the music at times along with some back up gang shouts.
At time s the music mixes in more of a traditional pagan/folk metal sound and the vocals also use melodic singing quite a bit throughout the recording and classical guitars can also be heard at times and the songs also bring in a great mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and there is also a brief use of spoken word parts and they also bring in a brief instrumental before returning back to vocal tracks.
The Dread Crew Of Oddwood plays a style of folk/pirate metal that is all acoustic while still having the aggression of a true metal band, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover fantasy, battles, pirates and humorous themes.
In my opinion The Dread Crew Of Oddwood are a very great sounding acoustic pirate/folk metal band and if you are looking for something that is different, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Side Quest" "Siren's Song" "Raise You Pints" and "Storm Riders". 8 out of 10.
