Wovoka are a band from Los Angeles, California that plays a mixture of sludge and post metal and this is a review of their 2015 album "Saros" which will be released in April by Battelground Records.
Distorted drones start off the album before adding in a heavy bass guitar and a few seconds later hardcore style screams are added into the music along with some melodies which slowly starts to lead to the music getting heavier and you can hear a great amount of doom and sludge metal in the bands musical style.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and you can also hear some clean playing being utilized in certain sections of the recording and as the album progresses some of the songs bring in a small amount of clean singing and the solos and leads also utilize a great amount of melody and all of the tracks also stick to a very slow musical direction while still being very heavy at the same time and you can also hear traces of psychedelia at times.
Wovoka creates a very heavy and melodic mixture of sludge and post metal on this recording and also add in elements of hardcore and psychedelia to create a sound of their own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark themes.
In my opinion Wovoka are a very great sounding mixture of sludge and post metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lament" "Trial" and "Eclipse". 8 out of 10.
