Dragonhammer are a band from Italy that has been featured before in this zine and plays an epic mixture of power and progressive metal and this is a review of their 2001 album "The Blood Of Dragon" which will be re-issued on January 19th by My Kingdom Music and also contains 2 live bonus tracks that where recorded in 2014.
Choir style vocals start off the album before adding in symphonic sounds and melodic guitar leads that are also a huge part of all of the tracks along with some heavy guitar riffing and melodic power metal singing and the synths also add elements of progressive rock to the songs and there are also some intros that bring in fantasy style movie war fights.
There is a good mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts present throughout the recording along with the faster sections bringing in some thrash and speed metal influences and at times you can hear some elements of the 80's German power metal sound in the bands musical style along with some spoken word samples while the music also sounds very modern for the time it was released.
On some of the tracks a small amount of acoustic guitars are utilized along with a few power ballads while there is still a good amount of heavier tracks and all of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and some of the riffs on the later tracks also bring in a more hard rock style of heavy metal at times and they close the album with 2 live tracks that where also done originally on this recording.
With this album Dragonhammer played more of a heavy, aggressive and fast form of power metal while still incorporating a good amount of progressive, symphonic and epic elements, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover fantasy and life themes.
In my opinion this was a very great sounding recording from Dragonhammer and if you are a fan of power and progressive metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Legend" "Age Of Glory" "Black Sword" and "In Your Eyes". 8 out of 10.
