Chiefs are a band from Arizona that plays stoner rock and this is a review of their 2015 album "Tomorrow's Over" which will be released in February by Roosevelt Row Records.
A very melodic, dark and heavy sound starts off the album bringing in elements of metal and stoner rock along with some clean singing vocals that have a very retro and 70's proto metal feeling to them which they also mix in with a more modern musical style and all of the songs stick to a slow to mid paced musical direction.
While the music is mostly rooted in a stoner rock style you can hear the heaviness of doom metal being added into the music at times along with some 90's rock influences being added into certain sections of the recording along with a small amount of melodic guitar leads that also bring in a desert rock feeling to the recording when they are utilized and as the album progresses a couple of long and epic in length tracks a re added onto the recording.
Chiefs plays a melodic style of stoner rock that is very retro yet modern sounding at the same and also brings in elements of doom metal in the heavier side of their musical style, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover dark, metaphysical and philosophical themes.
In my opinion Chiefs are a very great sounding stoner rock band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Like A Match" "Tesla" "1999" and "Tomorrow's Over". 8 out of 10.
