Weed Is Weed are a band from Maryland that plays a stoner form of doom metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Blunt Force Trauma" which will be re-issued on vinyl by Ripple Music on October 14th in 2014.
A very heavy, dark and stoner orientated doom metal sound starts off the album bringing in a very retro 70's and 80's metal sound along with some aggressive vocals that also have a melodic edge to them and after awhile the guitar riffing starts incorporating more melody as well as adding in heavy psychedelic guitar solos and leads which also bring in a proto metal sound at times and the band uses a triple guitar track throughout the recording.
On some of the other tracks the band brings in a good amount of the 90's stoner rock sound and mixes it in with their heavy doom metal side and as the album progresses bass guitar leads can be heard in certain sections of the recording and the band sticks to a very slow and heavy musical direction throughout the recording while also bringing in a few tracks that are long and epic in length and as the album progresses you can also hear a bit of blues rock in their musical sound at times.
Weed Is Weed plays a very old school style of doom metal that is closer to the 70's and 80's era of the genre but bring in a more aggressive vocal approach and elements of stoner rock to make their music stand out on its own, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover pot smoking themes.
In my opinion Weed Is Weed are a very great sounding stoner/doom metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Weed is Weed" "Big Green Patch" "Cottonmouth" and "Going Down To harlem". 8 out of 10.
