Palace are a band from Germany that plays a very traditional form of true heavy metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "The 7th Steel" which was released by Massacre Records.
A very old school Teutonic metal sound starts off the album along with a good amount of melody and aggressive vocals that also have a melodic power metal tone to them and the solos and leads the band uses continue the true metal tradition of the 80's while the production makes the music have a more modern day feeling to it and the band also brings in a small amount of keyboards and bass solos on some of the later tracks.
Some of the guitar riffing almost has a thrash metal feeling to it at times but never reaching the heaviness of that genre and on some of the tracks you can hear a small amount of clean playing and spoken word parts being utilized at times and most of the later songs sees the band focusing more on a mid paced and pure form of heavy metal throughout the recording mixing the melody of NWOBHM with the heaviness of 80's German metal which also shows them adding a touch of speed metal into their musical style at times.
Palace goes back to the 80's days of German heavy metal and creates an album that is very melodic, heavy and old school sounding while being a pure style of metal, the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover darkness, mythology and heavy metal themes.
In my opinion Palace are a very great sounding traditional heavy metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Rot In Hell" "Bloodshed Of The Gods" "Metal Company" and "Under New Flag". 8 out of 10.
