Cardinals Folly are a band from Finland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a mixture of heavy and doom metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Our Cult Continues!" which will be released in August by Shadow Kingdom Records.
Demonic spoken word samples start off the album along with some bass guitars and clean playing in the background and the feeling of a 1960's horror movie and after a couple of minutes the music starts to get heavier along with some ritualistic spoken word parts which start evolving into clean and melodic singing.
After the intro a melodic guitar lead starts to kick in along wit h some vocals and the music starts going for a more traditional and old school doom metal sound and the music sticks to mostly a slow to mid paced direction along with most of the songs being very long and epic in length as well as evoking a very dark and depressive feeling at times.
A great amount of dark sounding melodies can be found on every song that is present on this recording and a great amount of NWOBHM influences are added into the bands epic and traditional approach to doom metal and while the music is in an early 80's musical direction the production makes the band sound very modern. and they also bring back a small amount of spoken word parts on some of the later tracks along with a small amount of acoustic guitars which alos are used on the last song as well before returning back to a heavier and doomier direction on the following songs as well as having the bass guitars make a very powerful presence on this recording.
Cardinals Folly remain true to their NWOBHM influenced style of doom metal on this album and they keep it slow, melodic and heavy all the way throughout the recording. the production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and the writings of R.E Howard, H.P Lovecraft and Dennis Wheatley.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Cardinals Folly and if you are a fan of occult and traditional doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Morbid Glory" "Sighisoaran" and "Fallout Ritualist". 8 out of 10.
