Amon Sethis Interview

> 1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
>
Actually we've just released the new album so right now we're working hard on promoting it. We'll be playing at PPM Fest 2014 with bands such as Saxon, Therion or Vanden Plas. More news in the months to come!

> 2.Recently you have released a  new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from your previous releases?
>
Our new album «Part II : The Final Struggle» is the second part of the trilogy based on the legend of the seventh dynasty of Egyptian Pharaohs. Regarding the musical direction, in fact we wanted it to be a bit darker and heavier compared to «Part I : The Prophecy» as the story is dealing with war, resistance and death.

> 3.You have used 6 different singers on an album, can you tell us a little bit more about this concept?
>
As we're telling a story, it was mandatory for us to have different real characters instead of having one single voice to represent them, thus we've been searching for singers from various horizons with ability to sing in different tongues such as Hebrew or ancient Egyptian. For us, this brings a lot of originality into our concept.

> 4.When I listened to the album it was heavily rooted in progressive metal but it got heavier as time went on by and closer to death metal, what was the decision behind started off  the album very melodic and getting very heavy towards the end?
>
Yes you're totally right, Actually, tracks 8 & 9 are heavier as they re closely related to the story that is about possible destruction of Earth and Death of Ateravis the Hero that will be commiting suicide. Once again, the concept is leading the music we're writing so depending on the subject for each track, we're trying to write something that really fits.

> 5.With the band name and song lyrics the music is heavily rooted in Ancient Egypt Mythology, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic/
>
In fact the whole concept has been written already ten years ago by Julien, lead singer of Amon Sethis. He's been then searching for musicians to bring this concept to life.
With diplomas in History, he is really interested by Ancient Egypt. He started writing the story of Amon Sethis as a legend of the end of the sixth dynasty during the reign of the queen Nitocris. The story of the seventh dynasty starts with the birth of twins, sons of Nitocris, who will struggle for power, one for The good (Ateravis) one for the Evil (Amon Sethis)...
As the period of the seventh dynasty is almost unkown, Amon Sethis re-writes the story of these ancient and troubled times...

> 6.Has the band done any live shows or is this a studio project?
>
Actually, we've already done almost 40 shows during promotion of our first album, sharing the stage with bands such as Nightmare, Dark Moor, Blaze Bayley or Vanden Plas. Of course our main goal is to play this music live, because we do believe that it's the best place to promote the concept. Until now We've build a show that is becoming almost theatrical.

> 7.According to the Metal Archives page, the band is signed to  Brennus Music, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
>
Yes, Brennus Music is a label that is rock / metal oriented and they gave us our first chance when we released «Part I : The Prophecy». So we do thank them!

> 8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal?
>
We're quite a young band as Amon Sethis was created in 2007, so right now we're known in France mostly but we're starting some concerts in Italy, Belgium or Switzerland. Time will tell how Amon Sethis spreads in the World.

> 9.Are any of the band members involved with any other musical project these days?
>
Right now we're almost all involved 100% in Amon Sethis, except our bass player who is playing in another heavy metal band called Restful.

> 10.What musical direction do you see the band heading into during the future?
>
Well that is something we're still discussing right now as we need first to integrate the next part's history so it'll still be Metal and progressive but that's all we can say!

> 11.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
>
We're listening to some very different style of music, but regarding our influences i would cite Opeth, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Kansas, Porcupine tree, Devin townsend
Nowadays we're listening to Circus Maximus, Vanden Plas but our influences are also quite different. We can listen to other kind of music like Loreena Mac Kennitt, David Bowie and some ancient oriental music like artists such as Douglas Irvine, Mickael Akherton... This makes the originality in the music of Amon Sethis : to be open-minded.

> 12.What are some of your non musical interests?
>
Wow :-) let say that right now beside our full time job, Music is taking a lot of time so our main focus apart from it is our families that we do really really want to thank for support and understanding.

> 13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Just thank you for your time and Join the Pharaoh's Army!
