The Wounded Kings are a band from England that plays an occult form of doom metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Conselamentum" which was released by Candlelight Records.
The album starts out with a very dark and slow sound and it minute later it gets heavier and goes into a more doom metal direction along with some melodies a couple of minutes later which leads up to some clean singing female vocals along with dark synths in the background which also leads up to distorted sounding solos coming in.
As the album continues to sticks a very dark sounding traditional doom metal band and they have a sound that reminds me of Jinx Dawson of Coven singing for Pentagram but also having the heaviness of My Dying Bride and after awhile the solos and leads start bringing a 70s feeling to the recording.
As the album progresses the music gets a lot more dark, depressive and haunting in sound while having an evil and gothic/horror atmosphere in the background as well as bringing in a brief use of acoustic guitars and spoken word parts before returning to a heavier and darker direction but the acoustics return on the following track which is an instrumental and then the next track is a long epic doom metal song as well as bringing in a small amount of tripped out psychedelic sounds.
With this album The Wounded Kings play a very dark and traditional form of doom metal while also bringing in a very dark and evil sound as well as taking an old school form of metal and updating it with a more heavy and modern sound.
Song lyrics cover Occultism and Gothic Horror themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy, dark and professional sound with the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix as well as most of the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion The Wounded Kings are a very great sounding occult epic doom metal b and and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gnosis" "Conselamentum" and "Sacrifice". 9 out of 10.
