Pale Divine are a band from Pennsylvania that plays a psychedelic form of proto doom metal and this is a review of their 2014 double album "Cemetery Earth" which contains the 2007 album of the same name along with their 2006 demo and live and rehearsal tracks which was released by Shadow Kingdom Records.
The album starts out with a slow and heavy sound along with all of the musical instruments sounding very powerful which also leads to an old school traditional doom metal direction along with a good amount of melody and then the 70's style clean singing starts to kick in and after awhile psychedelic rock style solos are brought onto the record.
As the album continues the music starts mixing both the 70's and 80's variations of doom metal together as well as bringing in mid paced sections at times as well as some psychedelic sound effects and the music always has a good amount of sorrowful melodies which they mix in with a blues rock sound and on a couple of the songs you can also hear a small amount of synths being utilized along with a small amount of acoustic guitars being mixed in with them and at times they also mix in with the heavier parts and towards the end of the first side there is a brief use of spoken word parts.
When the second side of the double album s tarts it goes into their 2006 demo and has a sound similar to the full length but much more raw sounding and all of the songs where also done on the full length but with a more professional quality and the last 3 songs are live tracks which are also songs included on the full length album except for the last song which is a Marmalade cover.
Song lyrics cover death, misery and religion while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording as well as most of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Pale Divine are a very great sounding 70s style doom metal band with psychedelic and blues rock elements and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this double album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Eyes of Destiny" "(I Alone) The Traveller" "The Seventh Circle" and "The Conqueror Worm". 8 out of 10.
