Dark Country are a band from Portland, Oregon that plays a mixture of metal, punk and classic rock and this is a review of their self titled and self released 2013 album.
The album starts out with an old school hard rock/heavy metal sound along with fast riffing and melodic vocals as well as bringing in the aggression of punk rock and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
As the album progresses the band starts bringing in a mixture of slow and fast parts along with guitar solos and leads along with some parts that stoner rock fans would find very interesting while not being in that musical genre and in certain sections of the recording there is a small amount of psychedelic sounding synths being utilized.
Dark Country bring in a very heavy and retro sound with their music with the way the mix 70's and early 80's metal with the energy of punk and the song structures to create an album that is very old school while still having an identity of its own all at the same time.
Song lyrics cover dark and everyday themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy, old school and professional sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this album.
In my opinion Dark Country are a very great sounding mixture of metal, punk and classic rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Harbringer" "Dark Path" and "Lights Out". 8/5 out of 10.
