Groan are a band from the united Kingdom that plays a musical style they describe as being party stoner rock and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Ride The Snake".
Woman Of Doom" which is also the first song on the ep opens up with heavy and melodic doom metal guitar riffs and drums before adding in some melodic clean singing and after awhile the music goes into a mid paced direction and adds in some classic sounding heavy metal/ hard rock guitar solos and leads.
"Drug Lord" starts off with some spoken word chants before adding in some hard rock/metal guitar riffs and vocals along with some back up vocals and melodies and after awhile you can hear some bass guitars in the background and towards the end there is a brief use 70's rock style guitar leads and solos being utilized.
"Slice Of That Vibe" begins with a bass lead before adding in some heavy and melodic guitar riffs along with some drums and vocals and then the song starts combining hair and doom metal together along with some guitar leads that come in and out of the song.
"Blessed Is My Blade" kicks in with some old school heavy metal guitar riffs and drums before adding in some vocals and hard rock influences and after awhile the song goes into a more doom direction along with some melodic guitar riffing and halfway through the song guitar leads and solos are added in along with some back up shouts.
Citadel Of Chaos" which is also the last song on the album begins with some heavy guitar riffs and leads along with some bass and drums before adding in some vocals before combing 70's rock and doom metal together.
SOng lyrics cover darkness and party themes, while the production has a very strong, powerful, heavy and professional sound for being a self released recording where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this ep.
In my opinion Groan are a very great sounding hybrid of stoner rock and doom metal and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Woman Of Doom" and "Citadel Of Chaos". RECOMMENDED BUY.
