Sleestak/Book Of Hours/2013 EP Review

Sleestak  are  a  band  from  Milwaukee,  Wisconsin  that  plays  a  mixture  of  stoner,  psychedelic  sludge,  doom  metal  and  70's  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  ep  "Book  Of  Hours".

Drums  range from  slow  to  mid  paced  playing  with  no  fast  drumming  or  blast  beats  being  present  on  this  recording,  while  the  keyboards  and  sound  effects  bring  the  psychedelic  and  70's  rock  elements  to  the  music,  as  for  the  bass  playing  it  has  a  very  strong  and  powerful  sound  with  heavy  riffing  that  dominates  throughout  the  recording.

Rhythm  guitars  range  from  slow  to  mid  paced  riffs  that  combine  stoner,  psychedeleic,  sludge,  doom  metal  and  70's  rock  together  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  with  some  melody  being  thrown  into  the  riffing  at  times  as  well  as  some  soft  and  clean  playing,  while  the  lead  guitars  which  are  only  used  briefly  are  very  70's  sounding  heavy  metal/hard  rock  guitar  solos  and  leads.

Vocals  are  mostly  70's  sounding  clean  singing  doom  metal/stoner  rock  vocals  along  with  some  more  aggressive  elements  being  utilized  at  times  as  wel  as  some  spoken  word  parts,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  metaphysical  themes,  as  for  the  production  it  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy,  dark,  old  school  and  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  ep.

In  my  opinion  Sleestak  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  stoner,  psychedelic,  sludge,  doom  metal  and  70's  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genre's,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  'Seven  Sorrows"  and  "Backlight  Communion".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
