Magister Templi are a band from Norway that plays occult doom metal with a NWOBHM edge and this is a review of their 2013 album "Lucifer Leviathan Logos" which was released by Cruz Del Sur Music.
Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with no fast drumming or blast beats being present on this recording, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy riffing that dominates throughout the album.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine doom metal with NWOBHM together to create a sound of their own along with a great amount of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing, while the lead guitars are very dark and melodic sounding doom/heavy metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars they are only used on t he last song and they use full chords and finger picking to add more 70's influences to the recording.
Vocals range from clean singing doom metal vocals, high pitched power metal screams and spoken word ritualistic parts, while the lyrics cover Luciferian, Left Hand Path, Thelema, Occultism and Cabala themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy, dark, old school and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on this recording.
In my opinion Magister Templi are a very great sounding hybrid of occult doom metal and NWOBHM and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lucifer" "The Insmouth Look" and "Tiphareth". RECOMMENDED BUY.
