Death Rides A Horse are a band from Denmark that plays a mixture of stoner, sludge, doom and heavy metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Tree Of Woe" which contains both the 2012 ep of the same name and 2010's ep "Pantokrator" along with a bonus track which was released by Inferno Records.
Drums range from slow to mid paced playing with no fast drumming or blast beats being present on this recording, while the bass playing has a very strong and powerful sound with heavy and dark riffing that dominates throughout the recording, as for the sound effects which are only used briefly they bring a very dark and psychedelic 70's feeling to the album.
Rhythm guitars range from slow to mid paced riffs that combine sludge, stoner, doom metal and NWOBHM to create a sound of their own along with alot of dark sounding melodies being thrown into the riffing, while the lead guitars are very dark, melodic and old school sounding doom/heavy metal guitar solos and leads, as for the acoustic guitars w hen they are utilized they use finger picking and full chords to add more classic metal elements to the recording.
Vocals are all clean singing doom/heavy metal vocals, while the lyrics cover Lovecraft and Tolkien themes, as for the production it has a very strong, powerful, heavy, dark, old school and professional sound where you can hear all of the musical instruments that are present on t his recording with some of the songs being long and epic in length.
In my opinion Death Rides A Horse are a very great sounding hybrid of sludge, stoner, doom metal and NWOBHM and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Open The Gates" "Fly To The Rainbow" which is a Scorpions cover and "Dominion Of Metal". RECOMMENDED BUY.
