Distorted amp  drones  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  record  player  samples  and  after  the  intro  goes  into  a  heavier direction  along  with  a  small  amount  of  blast  beats  while  the  vocals  are  very  aggressive  and  mix  hardcore  and  sludge  together  and  some  of  the  tracks a re  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Clean  singing  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  solos  and  leads  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  fashion  and  violins  can  also  be  heard  briefly  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  steel  and  acoustic  guitars can  be  heard  on  a  few  of  tracks  and  they  also  give  the  music  a  more  southern  feeling  and  there  are  also  a  couple  of  instrumental  tracks  and  a  later  song  also  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  samples.

Ether  plays  a  style  of  sludge  metal  that  has  its  roots  in t he  NOLA  style  while  also  making  things  a  little bit  different,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  socio  political,  whitewashing  of  historically  tragic  events,  western  programming,  capitalism,  and  other  tenets  of  the  denigrating  of  the  human  condition.

In  my  opinion  Ether  are  a  very  great  sounding  sludge  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "For  Every  Nail,  A  Noose"  "No  Gods,  All  Masters"  and  "Fleas  Of  A  Rat".  8  out  of  10.

Amebix  where  a  band  from  the  United  Kingdom  that  played  a  mixture  of  punk  an d thrash  metal  as  well  as  being  one  of  the  first  crust  punk  or  stenchcore  bands  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  1987  album  "Monolith"  which  will  be  re-issued  on  June  30th  by  Dissonance  Productions.

Atmospheric  soundscapes  along  with  some  acoustic  guitars  start  off  the  album  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  music  starts  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  direction  and  powerful  sounding  bass  guitar  leads  are  also  a  very  huge  part  of  the  recording  along  with  the  riffs  adding  in  the  heaviness  of  thrash  metal.

On  this  recording  Amebix  remained  to   the  crust  punk  and  thrash  metal  mixture  which  they  where  known  for  while  the  synths  where  still  considered  very  original  for  this  genre  back  in  the  days,  the  production  sounds  very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  cover  society,  politics,  doomsday,  apocalypse,  and  anti  religion  themes.

In  my  opinion  Amebix  where  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  crust  punk  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Monolith"  "Time  Bomb"  "Chain  Reaction"  and  "Coming  Home".  8  out  of  10.
