Will Z/Dark Tales Of Will Z/HeadSpin Records/2014 CD Review

  Will Z  are a  band  from  the Underworld  that  plays  a  very  psychedelic form  of  occult  rock/metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "Dark  Tales  Of  Will  Z"  which  was  released  by  HeadSpin  Records.

  A  very  dark  and  evil  sounding  synth  starts  off  the  album  which  also  gives  the  music  and  atmospheric and  ritualistic  feeling  at  times  and  after  the  intro  spoken  word  parts  and  a  70's  influenced  psychedelic  hard  rock  sound  make  their  way  onto  the  recording  along  with  some  elements  of  proto  metal.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  solos  and  leads  that  are  utilized  bring  a  heavy  Black  Sabbath  influence  to  the  recording  and  while  the  music  has  a  retro  feeling  you  can  hear  some  later  influences  along  with  a  modern  day  production  on  this  recording.

  Some  of  the  tracks  bring  in  a  60's  gothic  horror  movie  soundtrack  at  times  along  with  a  small  amount  of  operatic  female  vocals  being  added  on  some  of  the  songs  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  the  more  progressive,  avant  garde  and  experimental  side  of  70's  rock  in  the  bands  musical  style  throughout  the  recording  and  ass  the  album  progresses  more  acoustic  guitars  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  some  of  the  whispered  vocals  have  a  black  metal  feeling  to  them.

  Will  Z  takes  a  great  amount  of  musical  styles  from  70's  doom  metal,  hard  rock,  psychedelia  and  acid  folk  to  create  a  very  dark,  evil  and  ritualistic  sounding  album  with  a  very  retro  vibe,  the  production  sounds  very  professional   while  the lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Satanism,  Alchemy  and  the  writings  of  J-K  Huysman.

  In  my  opinion  Will  Z  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  psychedelia,  metal,  hard  rock  and  acid  folk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Satan  Girl"  "My  Dark  Side"  "Ego  Ritual"  and  "Trouble  Me".  8/5  out  of  10.

     

Jukebox Monkey/Vs. Time/2015 EP Review

  Jukebox  Monkey  are  a  band from  the  United  Kingdom  that  plays  stoner  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2015  ep  "Vs.  Time".

  Clean  southern  rock  style  playing  starts  off  the  ep  and  after  a  few  seconds  stoner  elements  and  spoken  word  samples  are  added  onto the  recording  which  leads  up  to  more  of  a  hard  and  heavy  sound  along  with  some  clean  singing  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

  You  can  hear  a  bit  of  the  southern  and  alternative  metal  sound  in  the  bands  musical  style  at  times  along  with  a  great  amount  of  classic  rock  influences  and  the  riffing  also  brings  in  a  great  amount  of  melody  at  times  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  bring  in  even  more  of  a  melodic  and  retro  sound  to  the  bands  musical  style.

  Jukebox  Monkey  plays  a  style  of  stoner  rock  that  is  very  heavily  influenced  by  metal  and  classic  rock  while  also  having  a  perfect  balance  between  melody  and  heaviness,  the  production  has  a  very  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Jukebox  Monkey  are  a  very  great  sounding  stoner  rock  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Wolves"  and  "Dead  Wait".  8  out  of  10.      

Ne Spitsya/The Diving/2014 CD Review

  Ne  Spitsya  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  metal,  alternative  and  dream  pop  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  album  "The  Diving".

  Melancholic  keyboards  and  symphonic  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  clean  singing  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  and  you  can  also  hear  a  great  amount  of  acoustic  guitars  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  solos  and  leads  they  use  are  also  very  melodic  and  some  of  the later  tracks  bring  in  psychedelic  elements.

  Operatic  female  vocals  are  added  on  some  of  the  tracks  for  a  few  seconds  while  they  are  rarely  utilized  and  after  awhile  more  electric  guitars  and  metal  influences  are  added  onto  the  recording  while  the  main  focus  remains  more  on  an  alternative  and  dream  pop  sound  and  the  acoustic  guitars  also  bring  in  elements  of  folk  music.

  Ne  Spitsya  plays  a  style  that  is  more  closer  to  alternative  and  dream  pop  while  they  do  add  in  some  gothic  metal  elements  at  times  to  give  the  songs  more  of  a  powerful  edge,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Ne  Spitsya  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of  alternative,  metal  and  dream  pop  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Supernova"  "Home"  "I'm  With  you"  and "Bird's  Shadow".  8  out  of  10.  

  

Septem Voices/Bez Vesny/Fono Ltd/2014 EP Review

  Septem  Voices  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  very  symphonic  form  of  gothic  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  ep  "Bez  Vesny"  which  was  released  by  Fono  Ltd.

  Acoustic  guitar  playing  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  symphonic  elements,  operatic  female  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  having  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  a  couple  of  minutes  the  music  gets  heavier  and  also  brings  in  melodic  guitar  leads  and  solos  and  on  some  of  the  tracks  elements  of  electronic  music  are  added  onto t he  recording.

  You  can  hear  a  great  amount  of  modern  metal  elements  in  the  bands  musical  style  along  with  some  neo-classical  and  alternative  rock  traces  and  the  violins  when  they  are  utilized  gives  the  music  more  of  a  dark  edge  and  all  of  the  bands  stick  to  a  slow  or  mid  pace d gothic  metal  direction.

  Septem  Voices  plays  a  symphonic  style  of  gothic  metal  that  is  very  modern  sounding,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Septem  Voices  are  a  very  great  sounding  symphonic  gothic  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Bez  Vizney"  and  "S  Toboi".  8  out  of  10.  

Reaction/Kill The Parasite/2013 CD Review

  Reaction  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  progressive  and  thrash  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2013  album  "Kill  The  Parasite".

  Chains,  rain  and  thunder  sounds  start  off  the  album  along  the  music  getting  a  lot  heavier  a  few  seconds  alter  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  the  intro  the  band  starts  adding  in  more  of  an  old  school  thrash  metal  sound  as  well  as  adding  in  solos  and  leads  that  demonstrate  a  great  amount  of  talent  and  skill.


  Vocals  are  most  aggressive  and  melodic  at  the  same  time  and  you  can  also  hear  a  lot  of  melody  in  the  guitar  riffing  throughout  the  recording  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  few  power  ballads  and  the  heavier  parts  also  start  adding in  more  prog,  power  and  heavy  metal  elements  as  the  album  progresses.

  Reaction  plays  a  style  of  thrash  metal  that  is  very  old  school  and  also  mixes  in  elements  of  prog,  power  and  heavy  metal  along  with  some  modern  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  violent  and  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Reaction  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  progressive  and  thrash  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Behind  Your  Mask"  "Criminal  Pride"  "Resistance"  and  "Kill  the  Parasite".  8  out  of  10.  

    

Terratomorf/Ya Legend/2014 EP Review

  Terratomorf  are  a  band  from  Russia  that  plays  a  mixture  of  heavy  and  power  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  released  2014  ep  "Ya  Legend".

  A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  ep  along  with  some  clean  singing  vocals  and  the  music  has  more  of  a  modern  edge  than  a  good  portion  of  the  bands  that  play  this  genre  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  in  more  of  a  melodic  musical  direction.

  While t he  heaviness  is  more  on  a  modern  sound  you  can  hear  some  early  80's  heavy  and  power  metal  influences  in  the  bands  musical  style  at  times  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  slow  or  mid  paced  yet  heavy  musical  direction  and  you  can  hear  a  slight  thrash  influence  in  the  bands  musical  style  at  times  and  one  of  the  tracks  also  brings  in  a  few  seconds  of  acoustic  guitars.

  Terratomorf  plays  a  style  that  mixes  power  and  heavy  metal  together  with  modern  metal  elements  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  a  demo  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Russian  and  cover  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Terratomorf  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  heavy  and  power  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Ya  Legend"  and  "Gorod  Dushi".  8  out  of  10.  

Solanum/Epi-Demic/Passages To Lunacy/Horror, Pain, Gore, Death productions/2015 Split CD Review

  This  is  a  split  review of  a  double  album  between  Canada's  Solanum  and  Epi-Demic  called  "Passages  To  Lunacy"  which  was  released  by  HPGD  Productions  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Solanum  a  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  crossover  and  thrash  metal.

  A  very  hard  and  heavy  thrash  metal  sound  starts  off  their  side  of  the  split  along  with  some melodies  being  brought  in  at  times  and  a  few  seconds  later  the  music  starts  to  mix  in  elements  of  hardcore  punk  along  with  some aggressive  shouting  vocals  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced and  fast  parts  along  with  solos  and  leads  that  bring  in  even  ore  of  an  old  school  sound  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  heavy  sound  along  with  a  production  that  sound s very  old  school  yet  professional  at  the  same  time  and  lyrics  that cover  political  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Solanum  are  a  very  great  sounding old  school  thrash  metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Welcome  to  Our  Homemade  Hell"  and  "Lunatic  Tradition".

  Next  up  is  Epi-Demic  another  band  that  plays  a  mixture  of  crossover  and  thrash  metal.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  drum  beats  before  going  into  more  of  a  melodic  and  old  school  thrash  metal direction  along  with  the  raw  energy of  hardcore  and  aggressive  vocals  kicking  in  a  few  seconds  later  and  at  time s  the  music  can  also  be  very  brutal  and  also  adds  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats,  as  their  side  of  the  split  progresses  the  songs  start  adding  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  along  with  a  small  amount  of  guitar  leads  and  all  of  the  songs  remain  heavy  along  with  a  very  powerful  sounding  production  and  lyrics  that  cover  hate,  violence,  death,  fighting  and  daily  life.

  In  my  opinion  Epi-Demic  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  thrash  metal  and  crossover  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Famine"  and  "Stewing  In  Misery".

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  thrash  and  crossover.  8  out  of  10.
