The Glorious Rebellion/Euphoric/Magnetic Eye Records/2016 CD Review

  The  Glorious  Rebellion  are  a  band  from  Florida  that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge  and  noise  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Euphoric"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Magnetic  Eye  Records.

  A  very  heavy  and  noisy  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  few  seconds  aggressive  yet  melodic  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  and  they  also give  the  songs  a  touch  of  groove  metal  and  stoner  rock while  the  slow  and  heavy  riffs  are  very  heavily  influenced  by  sludge  and  the  music  mixes  in  a  lot  of  90's  influences.

  All  of  the  musical  instruments  on  the  recording  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  you  can  hear  a lot  of  noise  rock  elements  quite  a  bit  throughout  the  recording  and  as  the  album  progresses  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  can  be  heard  while  most  of  the  album  sticks  to  either  a  slow,  mid  paced  or  heavy  musical  direction.

  The  Glorious  Rebellion  plays  a  musical  style t hat  takes  sludge  metal  and  90's  noise  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  very  heavy  sounding  recording,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  hateful  themes.

  In  my  opinion  The  Glorious  Rebellion  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  sludge  and  noise rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "It's  A  Sucker's  Game,  Kid"  "Have  i  Told  You  Lately  That  I  Loathe  You"  and  "Bitches  Hate  Misogyny".  8  out  of  10.

Hot Coffin/Self Titled/Triple Eye Industries/2016 Full Length Review

Hot  Coffin  are  a  band  from  Wisconsin  that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge,  punk  and  noise  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2016  album  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Triple  Eye  Industries.

  A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  once  the  aggressive  vocals  kick  in  elements  of  noise  rock,  post  hardcore  and  punk  can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style  and  the  riffs  and  leads  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  melody.

  A  lot  of  90's  influences  can  be  heard  in  the  bands  musical  style and  the  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  vocals  also  get  melodic  at  times  and  also  mix  in  some  back  singing  and  some  songs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  old  school  punk  energy  and  the  whole  album  also  sticks  to  a  very  hard  and melodic  sound from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording.

  Hot  Coffin  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  sludge,  post  hardcore,  punk  and  noise  rock  and  mixes  them  together  to  create  a  style  of their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  real  life  themes.

  In my  opinion  Hot  Coffin  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  sludge,  punk  and  noise  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Hammer  Throw"  "Salt  Away"  and  "A  Lesson  In  Sleep".  8  out  of  10.

Throes/Koro/2015 Full Length Review

  Throes  are  a  band  from  Austria that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their self  released  2015 album  "Koro".

  A  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  melodies  at  times  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  while  the  vocals  are  mostly  sludge  style  screams  and  when  guitar  leads  are  utilized  they also  bring  even  more  melodies  into  the  songs.

  A  couple  of  the  tracks  are  long  and  epic  in  length  and  when  clean  singing  is  brought  onto  the  recording  they  bring  in  a  touch of  stoner  metal  and  most  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  slow  and  heavy  musical  direction  while  also  only  speeding  up  for  a  few  seconds  and  on  the last  track  clean  playing  is  added  into  the  music  along  with  a  small  amount  of  saxophones.

  Throes  plays  a  style  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  that  is  very  melodic  yet  heavy  at  the  same  time  while  also  mixing  in  a  touch  of  stoner  metal,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  self  released  recording  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  real  life  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Throes  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Zepsuta"  and  "Planet  Lobotomy".  8  out  of  10.

Pigeon Hunt/Cicutoxin/Ramekuukkeli-Levyt/2015 Split 12 Inch Review

  This  is  a  review  of  a  split  album  between  Finland's  Pigeon  Hunt  and  Cicutoxin  called  "Ramekuukkeli-Levyt"  and  we  will  start  off  the  review  with  Pigeon  Hunt  a  band  that  plays  an  angry  from  of  hardcore.

 Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out  with  angry  screaming  vocals  and  heavy  yet  melodic  guitar  riffs  that  have  an  avant  garde  feeling  at  times  while  also being  experimental  and  bringing in  a  touch  of  sludge  and  noise  rock  and  the  music  also  speeds  up  briefly  on  some  of  the  tracks  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  their  side  of  the  recording  and  one  tracks  brings  in  psychedelic  elements,  the  production sound s very  raw  and  heavy  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  humorous  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Pigeon  Hunt  are  a  very  great  sounding  experimental  hardcore  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of t he  split.

  Next  up  is  Cicutoxin  and  band  that  plays  of  sludge,  doom  metal  and  hardcore.

  Their  side  of  the  split  starts  out with  melodic  guitar  riffs  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  also  bring  in  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal  and  after  awhile  sludge  style  screaming  vocals  make  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  the  leads  also use  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  songs  stick  to  a  very  slow  musical  direction,  the  production  sounds  very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  dark  and  depressive  themes.

  In my  opinion  Cicutoxin  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  sludge,  doom  metal  and  hardcore  and if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  their  side  of  the  split.

  In  conclusion  I  feel  this  is  a  very  great  sounding  split  and  I  would  recommend  it  to  all  fans  of  hardcore,  sludge  and  doom  metal.  8  out  of  10.    

         

       

Sarvas/The Throne/Inverse Records/2016 EP Review

  Sarvas  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays a  mixture  of  stoner, sludge,  groove  and  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2016  ep  "The  Throne"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  inverse  Records.

  Dark  sound  effects  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy  and  melodic  musical direction  which  is  in  more  of  the  sludge  and  doom  metal  area  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  the  recording  while  the  vocals  are  in  more  of  a  very  aggressive  groove  metal  direction.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  very  dark  and  melodic  sounding  and  acoustic  guitars  can  also  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts and  one  of  the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic in  length  and  the  whole  ep  also  sticks  to  a  slow  to  mid  paced  musical  direction  from  beginning  to  ending  of  the  recording  and  most  of  the  tracks  are  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

  Sarvas  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted  in  sludge,  doom  and  stoner  metal  while  also  mixing  in  the  melody  of  groove  metal  to  create  a  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  themes.

  In  my  opinion  Sarvas  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  stoner,  sludge,  doom  and  groove  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Steadfast".  8  out  of  10.

Centipede/Sarnath/Inverse Records/2016 CD Review

  Centipede  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge,  stoner,  doom  metal  and  thrash  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016  album  "Centipede"  which  was  released  by  Inverse  Records.

  A  very  heavy  stoner  metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  elements  of  doom  metal  and  after  a  few  seconds  clean  singing  vocals  start  making  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  the  riffs  also  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  70's  rock  style  melodies  and  you  can  also  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

  At  times  the  riffs  start  utilizing  tremolo  picking  and  the  music  also  brings  in  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal  and  sludge  while  also  speeding  up  a  bit  in  some  parts  of  the  songs  and  adding  in  a  touch  of  thrash  and  speed  metal  and  as  the  album  progresses  acoustic  guitars  can  be  heard  briefly  before  making  a  return  back  to  a  heavier  musical  direction.

  Centipede  plays  a  musical  style  that  is  mostly  rooted in  stoner  and  doom  metal  while  also  mixing  in t he  heaviness  of  sludge  and  the  aggression  of  thrash  to  create  a  musical  style  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  the  writings  of  H.P  Lovecraft.

  In  my  opinion  Centipede are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  stoner,  sludge,  doom  metal  and  thrash  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Unspoken"  "Black  Mead"  and  "Sarnath".  8  out  of  10. 

Allfather/Bless The Earth With Fire/Static Tension Recordings/2016 EP Review

  Allfather  are  a  band  from  the  united  Kingdom  that  plays  a  mixture  of  sludge,  doom  metal,  and  hardcore  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2016 ep  "Bless  The  Earth  With  Fire"  which  will  be  released  in  April  by  Static  Tension  Recordings.

  Drums  start  off  the  ep  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavy,  distorted  and  melodic  musical  direction  that  also  brings  in  elements  of  hardcore  along  with  some deep  and  aggressive  sludge  vocals  and  after  awhile  guitar  solos  and  leads  start  making  their  presence  known  on  the  recording  and  the  music  also  adds  in  screaming  vocals  at  times.

  Throughout  the  recording  you  can hear  a  great  mixture  of  both  slow  and  mid  paced  parts  and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  clean  playing  and  the  heavier  parts  also bring  in  the  energy  of  punk  while  the  hardcore  elements  of  the  bands  musical  style  go back  to the  early  90's  east  coast  style  of  the  genre and  there  is  also  a  brief  use  of  spoken word  parts  and  one  of  the  tracks  is  very  long  and  epic  in  length..

  Allfather  plays  a  musical  style  that  takes  sludge  and  doom  metal  and  mixes  it  with  New  York  hardcore  and  a  touch  of  punk  to  create  a  sound  of their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark  and  angry themes.

  In  my  opinion  Allfather  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  sludge,  doom  metal  and  hardcore  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "The  Bloody  Noose"  and  "Death,  And  Hell  Followed  With  Him".  8  out  of  10.
