Acid Age Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Jude: We started on the 7th of January 2013, It was just as my solo project for the time as me and my gf just had a baby.
Then by March Acid Age were a full band adding bassist Jake Martin and drummer Jason harkness. After a raise in interest on the internet as a result of The Cyborg Thrashterpiece E.P Acid Age were quickly signed to Northern Irish based label, "Punkerama Records" and released Enter the Zomborg.
We have a new singer Eddie and a new drummer Luke.
We also moved to Witches brew records and we are happy.

Luke: Well Acid Age is a fast as fuck band focused on The Attitude of Punk, The Hyperness of Speed, and the Violence of Thrash, Simple really.

2.How would you describe the musical sound that has been presented on the recordings so far?

Jude: By us? I would say it's what we sound like, right? I actually produced our newest recording Drone Shark Ethics which is why it's so raw.
I'm a big fan of the kind of production from the first wave of thrash and Black Metal bands. Bathory's first album and Megadeth's Killing is My Business are two of my favorite albums and I love punk so needless to say I wont have much glossy stuff on Acid Age albums. Everything is raw and violent as fuck.

Jake: The nastier production portrays our style best i think, it makes us sound like a band instead of just a few musicians.

Luke: Its an Aggressively fast Juvenile School Detention Soundtrack.

Eddie: In my opinion enter the zomborg was a statement of speed metal. Fire spitting vocals that tore through you whereas drone shark ethics embraced the previous statement but upped the game and delivered in raw as fuck form.

3.I have seen the band label themselves as 'hyper thrash', can you tell us a little bit more about this tag?

Jake: Its a very self explanatory title for our "genre".

Jude: I've been saying in other interviews that Hyper Thrash is "the only true music and every other genre is fake" just to get reactions out of people. HAHAHA!
Seriously though Hyper Thrash is very simple to understand, it's raw, heavy, punk metal with a hint of Chuck Berrys rock n roll for flare and add some grindcore speed.
We actually don't want to be a good band we just want to be the fastest band on earth. HAHAHA!

4.In the past 2 years the band has released a demo, 2 ep's and a full length, do you feel you put a great amount of time and effort into writing music?

Jude: Jake and I are constantly writing music for Acid Age, we sit up all night and just jam for hours and hours.
It's really easy for us to write songs because we just do whatever comes naturally and don't worry about it too much, once Luke gets his hands on it though he speeds it up on the ol double kicks yo!

Jake: The writing process is very much consistent, we make sure we record everything we write together, even if it means recording with a mobile phone haha!

Luke: Well i wasnt present for the demos and the digital Eps and Enter The Zomborg but i can say that Jude and Jake put the their all into those master pieces and I commend them for it, Drone Shark Ethics I had a part in on drums but i would still say Its All Jude and Jake.

Jude: That's cute Luke, heres a biscuit.

5.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Luke: Well Jude is a fan of cult 80s movies like Toxic Avenger, Transformers, Alien, and Bruce Lee movies, and he reads a lot and is very knowledgeable of a lot of things (Full of shit) We all are but he puts a lot of that into his lyrics in a humourous way to match the insanity of the Music itself.

Jude: We try not to be pretentious, we like Sci-Fi and Zombies and usual un-original stuff but every so often our punk spirit will show in the lyrics and they're will be the odd "Fuck you" kind of song. We do have a lot of humor but we don't restrict ourselves to it either, songs on Drone Shark Ethics like F.T.P.L are more serious than jokey. We have already been talking lyrical concepts for the next album and we have something special planned.

Jake: I get to shout shit every now and again in each song, i think for a session bassist, i am very generous, and will take on tasks like backing vocals, and i wont charge the guys extra for it.

Jude: Yeah we pay Jake 3 billions pounds an hour to play in our band, he does a great job of bringing himself down to our shit level. HAHAHA

Eddie: A lot of humorous topics with hidden meanings and alot of stuff to make people aware of stuff going on around them such as the song FTPL.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Acid Age'?

Jude: I came up with that, I just liked it, thought it sounded cool and so that's why we are called Acid Age. To me it sounds like a thrash metal band name.

Jake: That was actually me, Jude.

Jude: Fuck off!

Eddie: Well the meaning i receive from the name is the fact of whats going on in the world today with higher powers having access to so many radioactive man made weapons. We are living in the acid age.

Jude: Yeah that sounds cool and edgy, Edward. Lets say that from now on!

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Jude: We all might have a different story for that one, hahaha for me it was a suicide awareness show we did in Belfast, an event called Punk for Pips.
I think we played great that night, the crowd was great too. Another one would be Hagues in Lisburn, a mosh pit broke out in the middle of our set and it got messy fast!

Jake: Wacken.

Jude: Wacken off in your bedroom Jake?

Luke: My stage performace is solid i always focus on being tight as fuck to keep the band in time, if i make a mistake though... i know Jake can cover me up and vise versa for him, and i make funny faces. Best Show so far for me would be the Voodoo lounge belfast gig we played for charity...
Punks are mental you can find that on our youtube page.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Jake: It will be a very busy year for us.

Jude: We have a UK tour coming up in Jan/Feb of 2015 and that will kick start us into a busy year of touring no doubt.

9.On the new album there was a cover of Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog", what was the decision behind doing your own version of this song?

Jude: Elvis was my very first musical influence. I always wanted to do a really raw thrash version of that song, it's only three chords so it's simple to speed up.
What makes our version interesting is we had Felix Griffin from D.R.I and BAT drum on the track. I love what he done on there. He's the man!

Jake: Elvis was a revolutionary player, and the pioneer of Djent.

Jude: How fucking dare you!!!

10.So far the band has been on 3 different labels, do you feel these labels have been very helpful when it comes to getting your music out there heard?

Jude: Yes we have enjoyed everything we have done with all three. We have been blessed enough to have good people helping us.
Witches Brew Records will handle the next record though, it's already in talks.

Jake: The labels and the people behind them have very much played a huge part in the growth of Acid Age in such a short space of time.

Luke: Yes the first two were very helpful for Jude and Jake, Witches Brew has been Great especially for my first Record Label Experience Cheryl is the kindest German woman i know and is Metal as fuck along with the Goat master Sigfrith.

Eddie: Witches brew have done a fantastic job getting the name out for Acid Age and really promoted DSE.

11.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of thrash?

Jude: Some love us and some hate us like every band right? HAHAHA! We have got loads of great reviews on Drone Shark Ethics though and we are really happy with that.
Some people don't really get what we are trying to do, you see by calling ourselves Hyper Thrash we are free from the limitations that we would have if we just called ourselves THRASH right? Hyper Thrash is metal punk rock n roll at grindcore speed. It's really that simple, some love it, some hate it, we do what we want... MOM!

Jake: We are very much the marmite band. I think I might even hate us. HAHAHA

Eddie: Fantastic! We always get great comments from fans overseas and they seem excited about me enjoying the insanity too which was a relief.

12.Are any of the band members currently involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Luke: I am involved in another band as the drummer called Wardomized along with Eddie who recently joined Acid Age who plays guitar in Wardomized.

Eddie: Yeah me and luke have been playing in our crossover thrash/groove metal band Wardomized for the past year, we have an EP out and currently working on our album.
Its actually how Jude found us and we have played shows together too!

Jude: Check them out they're really shit! HAHAHA!

13.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Jude: Faster, heavier, darker... I could go on. HAHAHA! We may change things along the way but not in a 90s Metallica goes country & Western kind of way, we're always gonna sound like us. But without change there can be no progress.

Eddie: We are toying with some longer jams than usual so maybe the new songs will be longer but certainly more intense and new vocals too!

14.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Jake: A lot of jazz and The Stooges.

Jude: I love everything honestly, I'm digging a lot of Simon and Garfunkel lately, but I love this band from Dallas Texas called Electric Vengeance.
They are wacky kind of punks in the style of Iron Maiden, it's total genius what they do. The new English Dogs album has been on a lot this year too and Midnights No Mercy for Mayhem.

Luke: Speed Metal, Hardcore, Thrash Metal... Some grindcore and Death Metal, Right now i'm listen to a lot of Machine Head, Napalm Death, Overkill, Exodus and Shit Tons of Hair Metal YEEEA!

Eddie: I love thrash of course bands like sepultura, gama bomb and nuclear assault etc, i also have a love for old school grindcore the energy and sheer speed is a huge influence for me.

15.What are some of your non musical interests?

Jude: Really good question, I've never been asked that before! I like a lot of B-movies like Troma Movies and the work of Morbid Vision. I have been reading a lot about a certain warlord of yesteryear, can't say who though because he's involved in the new songs and I don't wanna give too much away. I love Bruce Lee's work too.
Not so much his films (although I do like them) I am more into his philosophy writings.

Jake: Acid Age. HAHAHA! I enjoy tattooing and drawing.

Eddie: I watch some horror films, hang with friends, used to love wrestling too and i write alot of poetry. My mums a poet and she got me into writing at a very young age (she taught english better than my actual school teachers!)

16.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Jude: Thanks very much for the interview. Hope to say ya at a show real soon!

Jake: Cheers for the interest, Thrash till Heaven! <---Christianity in full force.

Luke: Thanks for the interview i hope you have learnt something about Acid Age and its members, and that is that i hope to keep working hard with the Lads to create fast as fuck music for anyone who is mental enough to like us for a long time.

Eddie: Yes be READY for the acid age tours we will leave you needing spine surgery!

Premortal Breath Interview

1. For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

There are still people that never have heard of us before? Impossible!
We are Premortal Breath an unknown and unsigned underground band from Germany formed in 2010. We play classical but also modern Heavy Metal with some Hard Rock elements. After we finally found our perfect line up, and yeah there were some challenges to find it, we decided to record our hard work from the past years to share it with the people around the world. We achieved this also with the help of our very best fans and friends who supported our crowd funding project. Thanks again so much!!!

2. Recently you have released an album, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Yeah, the album is called “THEY” and contains 8 really great songs.
Well we were in contact with some recording studios in Germany to check the price level against the quality. At Logischdenker Recording Studios we had the chance to record a sample song to get an overview about the work of Logischdenker´s Bastian Knochel. He immediately convinced with the results and the work with him was very busy but funny and productive. So finally we could reach a sound that is typically for old school Heavy Metal but still modern. Put the CD in your stereo, turn up the volume and enjoy it.

3. The band has been around since 2010 but waited until 2014 to release an album, can you tell us a little bit more about the first 4 years?

The first 4 years were really challenging in finding the right musicians. It´s not only enough for us if a candidate can play his/her instrument really well but he/she has also to fit in the band on a personal level. Some personal reasons also made former band members leaving the band. So it took 3 years to find our perfect and solid line up and after 4 years the album was realized.

4. What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Like you can read in our booklet all of our lyrics were written or supported by our lyricist and trusted friend of the band Oliver Matthes who also played the guitars at the very beginning. So the lyrics contain whatever comes in Oli´s mind after a weekend of watching horror or sex movies.
Bloodshed, murder, zombies, drugs and sex but also assisted suicide.

5. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Premortal Breath'?

It means the last breath before you die.
We had a few name changes and with Premortal Breath we had our first gigs so we decided to keep it and never change the name again. It is unique and it sounds funny how Germans are pronouncing it.

6. What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

The smallest gigs were the best for us to be honest. We had a gig in a very small location in Ludwigshafen with 2 other bands. Only a hand full of people was standing in front of the stage but made party as hell. It was really great to interact with them and be part of them.
Regarding our stage performance we still have to learn and get more experienced.
It is getting, at least from our point of view, better and better. We have our very special live outfit which you can see on the pictures of the booklet. Nothing with chains and leather as well as we all have short hair or no hair at all (Potti).
So more untypically for Heavy Metal but who cares? And we don´t care about those who do!

7. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yes of course! End of 2014 was a bit exciting. End of August I became father. Just a few days ago at the beginning of December our guitar hero Tobias became father for the second time as well. So live shows had to wait as our private life is still the most important thing for us.
In 2015 we´ll be back on stage. In March we will open the Ground Force One Festival in Leonberg and some other gigs will follow for sure. We´ll keep you updated on our Homepage and Facebook site.

8. Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Not yet. For sure the wish of nearly every musician is to sign a contract of a major label and get rich and famous. We all do have a real life and responsibility. We have a job and families and really great friends.
Will we sign a contract? Hard to say but we guess not.

9. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal?

That´s easy. They like us or they hate us. There´s nothing in between.  We received some low rated reviews from the UK and Germany but some high rated as well from around the world. So we concentrate to the people who likes us and our style.

10. Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We´ll keep our style. That´s what our true fans wants to listen to and they´ll get it.
Further plans are to enter the stages in Germany and hopefully internationally.
It would be really great to get the chance to play abroad someday.
Moreover we are planning another album to be released within the next 2 years.

11. What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Of course we all grew up with legends like Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Manowar, Judas Priest, Dio, Iron Maiden and the last few years we are listening to and were influenced by bands like Disturbed, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold, Slipknot, In Flames and many more.

12. What are some of your non musical interests?

Family comes first for every one of us.
Also some of us have pets at home as we have a big heart for animals.
But also classic US cars and old motorcycles get our interest.

13. Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We want to welcome everyone to join the Premortal Breath army. We also support Oxfam America and PETA with our sales so if you will buy our album you will do something good as well. See our videos on youtube.com for more information.

You can find us in the web as well as on all known digital online stores.

Midnight Bullet/Lose My Face/Inverse Records/2015 Full Length Review

Midnight  Bullet  are  a  band  from  Finland  that  plays  a  mixture  of  melodic  heavy  metal  with  elements  of  thrash  and  punk  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2015  album  "lose  My  Face"  which  will  be  released  in  2015  by  Inverse  Records.

A  very  hard  and  heavy  punk/metal  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  vocals  a  few  seconds  later  that  are  both  aggressive  and  melodic  at  the  same  time  and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  melody  in  the  music  and  the solos  and  leads  bring  in  even  more  of  an  old  school  hard  rock/heavy  metal  sound  to  the  songs  they  are  utilized  on.

At  times  you  can  hear  some  of  the  more  modern  commercialized  metal  sound  in  the  bands  musical  style  at  times  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  playing  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  along  with  one  of  the  later  tracks  being    power  ballad  and  some  of  the  songs  on  the  album  bring  in  a  heavy  influence  of  thrash  metal  which  adds  more  aggression  into  the  melodic  sound  of  the  recording as  well  as  adding  in  a  good  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts  and  the  last  track  brings  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.

Midnight  Bullet  plays  a  very  modern  style  of  melodic  metal  that  takes  the  energy  of  punk  rock  and  the  heaviness  of  thrash  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  a  theme  that  is  based  on  a  fear  of  making  yourself  a  total  fool.

In  my  opinion  Midnight  Bullet  are  a  very  great sounding  melodic metal  band  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Memories  Are  Gone"  "Six  Feet  Under"  "Lose  My  Face"  and  "Hope".  8  out  of  10.

Thermate/November/2014 Demo Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  demo  from  Thermate  that  continues  the stoner  rock  sound  of  the  previous  recording  and  the  recording  was  self  released  in  2014  and  called  "November".

Drum  beats  and  a  70's  inspired  stoner  metal  rock/metal  sound  starts  off  the  demo  along  with  a  good  amount  of  melody  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  after  awhile  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  along  with  some  clean  playing  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording.

At  time s you  can  hear  the  heaviness  of  doom  metal  being  utilized  in  the  music  while  the  cleaner  sections  also  gives  the  music  more  of  a  progressive  feeling  and  the  solos  and  leads  the  band  uses  continue  the  70's  rock  tradition  of  their  musical  style  and  at  times  spoken  word  parts  can  be  heard  briefly  along  with  one  of t he  tracks  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

Thermate  remains  true  to  the  stoner  rock  sound  of  their  previous  demo  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  good  amount  of  doom  metal  into  their  musical style,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  for  being  a  demo  while  the  lyrics  cover  drug  induced  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  soundign  recording  from  Thermate  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  stoner  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  demo.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Cloud  Of  Green".  8  out  of  10.

Sata Kaskelottia/Self Titled/Inverse Music/2015 Full Length Review

Sata  Kaskelottia  are  a  band  from  Finland  tha t plays  a  mixture  of  stoner,  sludge  and  progressive  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  album  which  will  be  released  in  2015  by  Inverse  Music.

A  very  hard  and  heavy  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  some  aggressive  vocals  which  also  add  in  elements  of  hardcore  and  groove  metal  and  you  can  also  hear  a  decent  amount  of  melody  which  are  in  more  of  a  stoner/desert  rock  direction  in  the bands  musical  style  and  the  slower  riffs  bring  in  a  good  dose  of  doom  and  sludge  metal  influences

You  can  hear  a  lot  of  90's  influences  in  the  bands  musical  style  but  done  in  a  more  modern  fashion  and  when  solos  and  leads  are  used  in  the  music  they  add  in  more  of  a  stoner  metal  feeling  to  the  tracks  they  are  utilized  on  while  on  other  tracks  they  also  bring  in  elements  of  melodic  progressive  metal  and  as  the  album  progresses  clean  singing  vocals  can  be  heard  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  some  tracks  also  add  in  a  small  amount  of  acoustic  guitars.

Sata  kaskelottia  takes  the  stoner  and  sludge  genres  and  mix  them  in  with  progressive  metal  to  create  their  own  musical  style,  the  production  sound s very  professional while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Finnish  and  cover  dark  themes.

In  my  opinion  Sata  Kaskelottia  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  stoner,  sludge  and  progressive  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Huuto"  ""Kynto"  "Jumalan  aani"  and  "Merimies".  8  out  of  10.

One Last Shot Interview

INTERVIEW
Review: http://undergroundmusickzine.blogspot.fr/2014/12/one-last-shotfirst-gearjust-for-fun.html

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Sky: We are a young French band, from Paris, and we play some kind of Rock n’ roll Metal, cradled by the Southern Rock of Lynyrd Skynyrd, the aggressiveness of Motörhead and the adoration for Gun’s and Roses guitar solo style.

2.In March you had released a new ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
Sky: More than new, it was our “first” EP, so it contains a little blend of several of our musical influences and tastes. As you well described it, I think we took from thrash, hardcore,  stoner,  and southern  rock to create our sound, and there’s some kind of good old rock n’ roll with a modern metal approach and sound.

3.The band refers to itself as 'dust metal', can you tell us a little bit more about this tag?
Sky: It’s a way to describe our spirit, and our love for westerns, and Rodriguez or Tarantino universes. A music for bikers, which smells oil and dust. Maybe we could use “garage metal”  ;-)

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Sky: we talk mainly about our everyday life - booze, bike, girls, music (whatever is the order) – but we feel free to explore philosophical or society-based subjects, like the loss of childhood or the indoctrination.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'One Last Shot'?
Sky: we wanted a cool name, easy to remember and visually strong. Behind that you can find the last shot in a Sergio Leone’s movie, the last drink you take by the end of the night, or the last bang with a girl. It’s about pleasure: enjoy it before it ends.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Sky: One of our best show was in Paris, at “La Fleche d’Or”. The equipment of the venue was really good, the crowd was on fire and we played for them a god damned show! We love being on stage and play for our public. A lot. And we are really good at that, because our music is dedicated to that, and we work hard for it. We don’t write our songs to put them on a disk, but to play them live. Loudly.  J

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Sky: We have few shows for the future, but we are just beginning the promotion of our EP (we signed a contract with Dooweet), and we hope a lot of people will love it, because that would help us to convince live organizations! :D

8.The ep was released on Just For Fun Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Sky: it’s a small label with passionate people. They signed an album of our previous band, but the fact is they convinced us to keep going with them by giving us free beers!

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of both metal and rock?
Sky: you’re the first one on a worldwide level, for now our fans are in France J

10.Are any of the band members involved with any other band or musical project these days?
Sky: 3 of us were in a band together during 8 years, but for now Norge (bassist) is the only one to have another band (Sin And Death)

11.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
Sky: We’ll try to record a full length album on summer 2015, and we’ll follow the musical path created by our EP.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Sky: Well, it depends on who is answering you… We’re still listening classic rock and metal (AC/DC, Led Zep, Lynyrd, Metallica, Machine Head, old Sepultura, Pantera, etc...), and nowadays Shelby is more on Bluegrass and country, Scarsid loves Djent and progressive Metal, Kmy is fond of a lot of punk-rock band, Norge listens Extreme Metal, and for my part I’ve soften my tastes with rock-metal bands.

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
Sky: it’s not an exhaustive list, but I would say beers, motorbikes and tattoos.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Sky: Thanks a lot for this interview, and your review. I hope we’ll play in your city and share a beer in a close future.
