Beige Eagle Boys/You're Gonna Get Yours/Reptilian Records/2014 CD Review

Beige  Eagle  Boys  are  a  band  from  Detroit,  Michigan  that  plays  a  mixture  of  noise  rock  and  hardcore  and  this  is  a  review  of  their 2014  album  "You're  Gonna  Get  Yours"  which  will  be  released  by  Reptillian  Records.

A  very  heavy  sound  along  with  powerful  bass  lines  start  off  the  album  along  with  some  hardcore  style  vocals  and  the  musical  style  being  in  a  more  noise  rock  direction  and  the music  sticks  to  mostly  a  slow  or  mid  paced  direction  as  well  as  adding  in  some  melodic  vocals  and  aggressive  sounding  screams.

As  the  album  progresses  you  can  hear  a  good  amount  of  punk  rock  influences  being  added  into  the  bands  musical  style  as  well  as  sticking  to  an  early  90's  noise  rock  direction  which  makes  the  music  sound  very  old  school  and  the  music  also  starts  to  speed  up  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  which  shows  a  more  east  coast  style  of  hardcore  being  added  into  the  bands  musical  arsenal  and  the  last  track  is  a  cover  of  Don  Henley's  "Dirty  Laundry"  which  also  shows  some  melodic  guitar  leads  being  utilized.

Beige  Eagle  Boys  goes  back  to  the  early  90's  genres  of  hardcore,  punk  and  noise  rock  and  combines  them  to  create  a  very  energetic  and  old  school  sound  with  their  music  as  well  as  utilizing  a  great  amount  of  melody,  the  production  sounds  very  old  school  yet  professional  all  at  the  same  time  while  the  lyrics  cover  real  life  themes.

In  my  opinion  Beige  Eagle  Boys  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  punk,  hardcore  and  noise  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "I  Saw  Your  Face  On  The  Pavement"  "I  Want  Out"  "Not  My  Fault"  and  "Dirty  Laundry".  8  out  of  10.

Citizen Vicious Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We are a Thrash n' roll band from the south-shore of Montreal made-up of 4 hard working, hard drinking, hard partying bad-asses...Pete(guitars), Oli(vocals), Guillaume(bass), Pascal(drums)... We started the band about 5 years ago and we just wanted to jam and have a good time forgetting our routine, we never really planned on making an album or doing any shows until all of our friends started telling us we had a great sound and good chemistry... We started doing shows three years ago and decided to record the album since everything was sounding awesome... And we are glad we did

2.Recently you had released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about your musical style/

We didn't really know what our style of music was until somebody we know baptized it thrash n'roll... before that we would just tell people it's Citizen Vicious because we were aiming to make our own sound... it's a melting pot of inspiration and all the members of the band have different musical backgrounds from classic rock to extreme metal, so we decided everyone would have their say in the composing of the music...

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

We try to avoid any political or religious inspired lyrics to avoid conflicts in the band... we all have our own opinions on those subjects so we decided to write about more simple every-man subjects like beer(shit-faced), women/relationships (thunder-cunt), work(tonight), death(the reaper) and so on...

4.What is the meaning an inspiration behind the name 'Citizen Vicious'?
Citizen Vicious is kind of like an oxymoron inspired by our everyday lives being party animals... we all have full time jobs, houses, some of us kids, and it was the best name we found to portray that image of working all day and getting hammered at night as soon as we can... We would never put our responsabilities aside for anything but some days it can get pretty hard and very tempting to just quit everything to jam and get shit-faced all day... so that's what Citizen Vicious is all about.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

All of our shows have really been awesome so far but playing at the Foufounes Electriques in montreal was a great experience since we all grew up getting drunk there... Opening for Grim Skunk and Dance Laury Dance were also very cool shows... also our latest show down in Toronto was a Fucking blast partying with The Rough Boys and Black Absinthe...As for describing our stage-presence, I would say very energetic, hard pounding, and lots of beer !!! we are there to have fun and rock out, not to show people how talented we are or show off our latest over-expensive piece of useless gear...

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Of course, we will take any offers that will come up if they dont involve spending money we dont have or putting our families aside for a long period of time.

7.The new album came out on Hellstorm Records, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Hellstorm Recordz is a new label in Montreal started by a buddy of ours who is the kind of guy who would sell his soul to help out the underground scene, the label is all about that... helping new bands and musicians get some exposure without going bankrupt through social medias, word-to-mouth and pretty much anything he can do to help... it's not the same principle as other labels since there is no contract involved... We pay him if he sells the albums... its as easy as that and much less headaches in the long run.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal, punk, and rock?

We have been getting alot of excellent reviews for the albums and the shows in Quebec and Canada... as for Worldwide I couldnt tell you because we havent promoted the band on that scale.. but we have a couple fans from all over who talk to us via facebook who are telling us that the band is awesome so I guess in a couple years we could be the biggest band in the world or maybe just the same as we are today... either way, we had way too much fun to regret anything (or remember in some cases)

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

As I said before, we'll take any offers that come up, we would love to tour Europe and the states but we need to make sure we can cover our home expenses and feed our kids before buying a van and a case of beer and hitting the road... One thing you can be sure of is Citizen Vicious is here to stay as long as we can afford it and our livers keep working lol :)

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Motorhead, Pantera, Nashville Pussy, Peter Pan Speedrock to name a few but to name all of them would take 20 pages of writing so we'll stick to saying anything that rocks hard and fast...

11.What are some of your non musical interests?

Sex, Whiskey,mini-putt, mah-jong, wearing womens underwear (just kiddin) , Barbecues, partying with buddys,  getting drunk and laughing at Emo/core Kids, Playing with our kids and families, Jamming on wednesdays religiously... besides that we are pretty normal guys with slight brain damage...

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

We're here to rock your soul, sex and whiskey will never get old... and thanks to you folks for the interview and all the fans who keep coming to our shows and giving us the awesome feedback we've been getting so far!!! Cheers headbangers from everyone in the Citizen Vicious family ...

Drcarlsonalbion/Gold/2014 CD Review

Drcarlsonalbion  is  a  solo  artist  from  Seattle,  Washington  best  known  for  his  work  with  'Earth'  and  with  his  solo  music  he  plays  a  mixture  of  doom  metal,  drone,  country,  jazz  and  folk  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  album  "Gold"  which  will  be  released  on  June  17,  2014.

Clean  and  distorted  playing  starts  off  the  album  and  after  a  few  minutes  slide  guitars  find  their  way  into  the  music  and  they  bring  a  country  blues  rock  felling  to  the  recording  and  after  awhile  drones  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  music  is  all  instrumental  with  no  vocals  being  present.

Most  of  the  songs  are  very  short  in  length  and  also  can  be  in  an  experimental  direction  at  times  as  well  as  having  a  mixture  of  both  clean  and heavy  parts  as  well  as  both  electric  and  acoustic  guitars  being  utilized  throughout  the  tracks  and  they  are  the  main  instrument  on  the  album  with  only  a  small  amount  of  other  instruments  being  utilized  for  a  few  seconds.

Drcarlsonalbion  adds  a  more  country  folk  feeling  to  his  drone  sound  on  this  album  as  well  as  amking  all  of  the  music  instrumental  along  with  with  a  production  that  is  very  dark  and  raw  yet  professional  at  the  same  time.

In  my  opinion  Drcarlsonalbion  is  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  drone,  country  and  folk  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  solos  artist.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "  Gold  II"  Gold  X"  "GOld  XX"  and  "Gold  XXIV".  8  out  of  10.

Corrosion Of Conformity/IX/Candlelight Records/2014 CD Review

Corrosion  Of  Conformity  are  a  band  from  North  Carolina  that  has  been  around  for  a  long  time  as  well  as  being  featured  before  in  this  zine  and   with  this  album  they  take  the  crossover  thrash  punk  sounds  of  the  early  material  and  mix  it  in  with  the  southern  rock  and  sludge  metal  styling's  of  later  recordings  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "IX"  which  will  be  released  by  Candlelight  Records.

A  very  distorted  and  heavy  rock  sound  starts  off  the  album  before  the  music  gets  more  dark  and  metal  sounding  along  with  some  doom  metal  style  guitar  leads  and  riffs  which  leads  up  to  some  melodic  vocals  kicking  in  and  the  music  also  has  a  70's  and  retro  rock  feeling  to  it  but  done  in  a  more  modern  day  manner.

On  the  other  tracks  the  band  returns  back  to  its  southern  metal  sound  of  the  90's  but  with  a  more  dark,  doomy  and  sludgy  sound  than  what  was  presented  back  them  as  well  as  staying  away  from  any  mainstream  sounds  of  the  material  that  was  released  back  them  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them.

After  awhile  the band  also  starts  bringing  in  some  thrash  and  crossover  songs  which  show  the  punk  influence  that  was  a  huge  part  of  the  bands  musical  style  in  the  80's  along  with  some  aggressive  hardcore  style  screams  while  also  using  some  melodic  vocals  on  the  faster  tracks  as  well  and  they  also  mix  in  the  punk  sound  with  their  slower  and  doomier  material  as  well  and  after  awhile  they  also  start  adding  acoustic  guitars  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  while  the  main  focus  is  still  on  a  heavier  sound.

Corrosion  Of  Conformity combine  all  of  the  musical  styles  that  they  have  played  over  the  years  together  to  create  one  of  the  heaviest  albums  they  have  released  in  years  as  well  as  adding  in  a  more  modern  day  feeling  that  would  appeal  to  fans  of  sludge  metal,  doom  and  stoner  rock,  the  production  sounds  very  professional  while  the  lyrics  cover  society,  politics  and  people.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Corrosion  Of  Conformity  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  band,  you  should  enjoy  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Brand  New  Sleep"  "The  Nectar"  "Trucker"  and  "Who  You need  To  Blame".  8  out  of  10.

Missiles Of October/Don't Panic/Pogo Records/2014 CD Review

This  is  the  first  full length  from  Missiles  Of  October  with  the  band  continuing  their  noise  rock/sludge/post  hardcore  sound  that  was  presented  on  the  2  ep's  with  the  album  being  called  "Don't  Panic"  and  released  by  Pogo  Records.

A  very  dark  and  heavy  hardcore  style  sound  starts  off  the  album  along  with  all  of  the  musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  and  a  few  seconds  later  screaming  vocals  are  added into  the  music  along  with  more  elements  of  sludge  and  post  rock  and  you  can  also  hear  some  punk  influences  in  the  music  at  times  when  the  music  speeds  up  a  bit.

When  guitar  solos  are  added  into  the  music  it  gives  the  album  a  more  dark  and  melodic  edge  and  as  the  album  progresses  the  music  sticks  mostly  to  a  low  or  mid  paced  direction  and  only  speeding  up  in  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  vocals  also  start  getting  more  diverse  with  the  screams  and  the  second  side  of  the  album  also  shows  the  band  going  into  a  heavier  direction.

Missiles  of  October  continue  their  early  90's  old  school  mixture  of  post  hardcore,  noise  rock  and  sludge  with  this  album  as  well  as  keeping  around  a  very  dark  and  heavy  sound  to t heir  musical style,  the  production  sound s very  powerful  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  alcohol,  and  everyday  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Missiles  Of  October  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  post  hardcore,  noise  rock  and  sludge,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Don't  Panic"  "Become  An  Asshole"  "Six  pack"  and  "You  Pray  A  World  Of  Shit".  8  out  of  10.

Missiles Of October/Body/Pogo Records/2014 EP Review

This  is  a  review  of  another  recording  from  Missiles  Of  October  which  continues  their  mixture  of  post  hardcore,  noise  rock  and  sludge  metal  with  one  new  song  being  on  the  recording  and  2  re-mixes  and  a  live  track  from  the  first  extended  play  with  this  ep  being  called  'body"  and  released  by  Pogo  Records.

A  90's  style  hardcore  style  sound  starts  off  the  ep  before  slowing  down  and  adding  in  screams  and  more  sludge  and  noise  rock  elements  and  the  solos  the  band  use  this  time  around  are  in  a  very  dark  and  melodic  vein  and  they  also bring  in  a  mixture  of  slow  and  mid  paced  parts  into  the  songs.

The  2  following  tacks  are  re-mixed  versions  of  songs  that  where  presented  on  the  first  ep  and  the  bass  guitars  have  a  very  powerful  presence  on  the  2  tracks  as  well  as  some  ambient  sounds  being  utilized  in  the  background  as  well  as  traces  of   other  electronic  music  styles  and  they  close  the  ep  with  a  live  track.

Missiles  Of  October  continue  the  sound  that  was  present  on  the  first  ep  as  well  as  doing  a  few  re-mixes  and  this  is  something  that  was  released  as  a  sample  before  the  full length  finally  came  out,  the  production  sounds  very  professional,  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  addictions  and  alcohol  themes.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Missiles  Of  October  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  sludge,  post  hardcore  and  noise  rock,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "Dead  Body".  8  out  of  10.

Missiles Of October/Hangover/Pogo Records/2012 EP Review

Missiles  Of  October  are  a  band  from  Belgium  that  plays  a  mixture  of  post  hardcore,  noise  rock  and  sludge  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2012  ep  "Hangover"  which  was  released  by  Pogo  Records.

Drum  beats  start  off  the  ep  along  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  which  leads  up  to  a  heavier  and  darker  direction  along  with  some  aggressive  and  spoken  word  style  vocals  and  the  music  starts  mixing  hardcore,  noise  rock  and  sludge  together  along  with  soem  melodic  gutiar  leads  being  utilized  at  times.

the  music  on  the  following  tracks  remain  in  the  same  direction  of  the  first  song  and  are  always  in  slow  and  mid  paced  mode  along  with  some  80's  and  early  90's  style  East  Coast  noise  rock  elements  being  thrown  into  the  music  and  the  vocals  also  start  to  get  more  aggressive  and  add  in  hardcore/sludge  style  screams.

Missles Of  October  go  back  to  the  early  90's  styles  of  noise  rock  and  post  hardcore  and  mix  it  in  with  the  heaviness  of  sludge  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own,  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw,  heavy  and  old  school  feeling  to  it  while  the  lyrics  cover  dark,  addictions  and  alcohol  themes.

In  my  opinion  Missiles  of  October  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  post  hardcore,  noise  rock  and  sludge  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE "Addictions"  and  "Wanna  be".  8  out  of  10.
