Trainwreck Architect Interview

Answered by Simon Ouellet (vocals)

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days? We are about to go on tour. Appropriately entitled " wreck the road" tour. During the spring and summer times we will be fairly busy and we are all really excited. We have also begun preproduction for our next album and the new material is very surprising to us and will be to others. We're branching out in different directions and its a great feeling to touch new ground. 2.Recently you have released a new album, can you tell us a little bit about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the demo you had released a few years back? Traits of the sick is our debut album. We learned a lot in the process of recording . Our demo songs have all been recorded again for the album and with many differences. It's a mix of thrash and heavy metal with a few twists . As a band we're never afraid to play off of our influences and with that said we have many to play off of. 3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music? I write about personal issues and my experiences. I want to convey every emotion possible with the music. Im a mixed mental mess sometimes so writing really puts the mess in order for a while. We're always maturing musically and I'm happy about that because that way i can delve into different parts of myself rather than just being aggressive like most metal seems to be. What ever i experience in my life. Positive or negative it will end up in a song some time. 4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Trainwreck Architect'? I am a trainwreck architect. We all are. Its about making those choices that don't end up too good. Choices that leave your life looking like a trainwreck but you cant turn away from a trainwreck and a real man cant turn away from his life. It turns away from you. So you stick with it and pick up the pieces and then get the train back on track. 5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance? Our best shows are every show. Its always a learning process and we get better every single time. We're extremely energetic and thrive to have fun with our audience before, during and after the performance. The rock and roll attitude is a big part our metal sound. 6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future? Through out may, june and july we will be all around Canada: Ontario, Quebec, The maritimes and to kick it all off, we are opening for german power metal masters PRIMAL FEAR on may 2nd in Montreal. 7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest? The plan right now is to focus on the next record and tour and gig. By the time our next record is complete we will be shopping it around. 8.On one of your tracks you had a guest performance from the guitar player in Annihilator, do you feel having this legendary guitarist play one song on your album will help get your band out there heard more? I think in terms of annihilator fans we will turn some heads our way for sure but the real reason we wanted jeff on the record is because we are fans of that band. It is really amazing to have one of our heavy metal heroes play on the album. I love annihilator and jeff waters is a class act. 9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal? A load of positive reactions . People seem to like the clashing metal styles of the band and thats what we will always do. Its Really fun to dig into our influences from all kinds of music. Im also aware that some people wont "get it" because we don't stick to one sound but we're real fans of metal and music so our sound is every sound we want it to be. 10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future? Its an endless ride with this band. The next record is full of different styles. Grindcore, funk, metal, rock n roll, doom. In the mean time i suggest you listen to our debut and by the time part two rolls around you wont know what hit you. 11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays? We're into something different everyday . On traits of the sick there seems to be a big thrash influence . Anthrax, Death angel, Annihilator and throw in some groove to that and top it off with the classic metal stamp. Personally i am on a big blues and 70s funk binge. Funkadelic, James Brown. Son house. As for metal I am loving kvelertak and phil anselmo's solo album. 12.What are some of your non musical interests?

I love wrestling. I love "fake" sports. That UFC is too serious and not enough fun for me. Im glued to my TV and watch WWE raw almost every monday night. The real dream would be to play at wrestlemania haha. 13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts? Keep your ears open and keep listening to us. Follow us on facebook and check out our website for information on touring and news. We look forward to playing for you some day! Wreck"n"Roll is on its way.

Avoidant Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before can you tell us a little bit about the musical project?
1. AVOIDANT is what you usually call a one man band or a bedroom producer. I started the project around 2007, messing with my laptop, after a series of frustrating experiences with bands I'd been jamming/recording with. So I decided to do things my way, with no second opinion on how my music should sound. That's not necessarily a good thing, but it made sense back then, and I got used to it, I had the chance to experiment a lot of things I otherwise, in a band environment, felt restrained to do. The first track I worked on was what became Prelude to an Eon, which came out on Enough Records in 2008, even though I first appeared with a track on a compilation called Falésia 2 for the same label. Since then I've released two full lengths, Birth in Carpathia and Songbook Sines. All of them are absolutely free to download or stream, so no harm in giving them a shot.

2.Recently you have put out a new album, how would you describe the musical sound of the new recording and also how does it differ from previous releases?
2. I guess the biggest difference is the inclusion of rhythmic patterns and binaural tones on some tracks, as well as a stronger melodic sense. Songbook Sines is not as abrasive as Birth In Carpathia was, in the sense that the drone doom/sludge influence was set aside, even though it shares a very similar bleak aura of isolation. I would say Songbook Sines is my medicated bedtime record, while Birth In Carpathia is the withdrawal insomnia record. My first recordings and a track I did for another Enough Records compilation, AtlanThis 2, on the other hand, are kind of messy style/concept wise, but I still find them enjoyable when I'm feeling nostalgic. There's also the tracks I did for a split with Ecos, a Portuguese trio, which I plan to remix one day, they are this really dense and thick wall of noise... but I reckon AVOIDANT has really departed from that kind of sound.

3.What are some of the themes and images you bring out with your music?
3. Isolation is the biggest theme, I think. Some sort of nihilistic pessimism towards the way the world functions. There is also the intention of evoking ritualistic or trance state imagery, and that explains the repetitive nature of AVOIDANT's sound.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Avoidant'?
4. It comes from the personality disorder. It came about after I did some lame Internet quiz to determine my personality. Even though I don't consider myself an avoidant type person, for the most part, I thought it would fit the isolationist mantra behind the project. I was, after all, trying to avoid having any outside input to my creations.

5.You work all solo with this project, are you interested in using other musicians in the future?
5. AVOIDANT will always be I alone, but I won't ever say no to other musicians on stage, it helps take the burden off. I have many other collaborations and since recovered my fear of sharing musical ideas. I guess I've found people on the same page to work with. I've done a couple of releases with Rui P. Andrade, one with Jerome Faria, and I'm currently working on three different projects with Vitor Bruno Pereira, he's got a prolific bandcamp goin on with his Gerry Miroux project, you should check it out.

6.Have you done any live shows with this project or is it strictly a studio project?
6. I've played live with Rui P. Andrade, but it wasn't necessarily an AVOIDANT show, even though I think there were some of my tracks buried in the wall of noise. I would very much like to do so, though.

7.The new album came out on Etched trauma Records can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
7. Etched Traumas is a Greek netlabel. We're IMF recession buddies. They had curated my collaboration with Rui, White Mother, so I thought I could count with their support with Songbook Sines. It was Etched's fiftieth release, so I'm proud to have that number slot.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of ambient and noise?
8. It's been mostly positive. I've read nice comments so far. It seems to evoke a lot of imagery on the listener and I very much like that visual side to be part of my music. There's also been some less flattering comments, calling the new record too academic and missing hooks, but even those reviews have positive aspects to counterpart. I'm pretty conscious that the music I make with AVOIDANT isn't a multi-task tune or something you enjoy when commuting, and I'm perfectly fine with that.

9.Where do you see this project heading into musically during the future?
9. I'm always trying to improve my music and the experience it evokes, and for that I plan on rebooting my way of working with this project. I'll certainly experiment with new mediums. I've been writing a lot with the guitar lately, so maybe the new AVOIDANT will be far more guitar oriented, but, on the other hand, I don't tend to loose the rhythmic side of Songbook Sines. I tend to improve that aspect as well.

10.What are  some of the bands or musical styles that have influenced the music on this project?
10. I was listening to a lot of Stroboscopic Artifacts and Raster-Noton releases last summer, and that had some influence on the rhythmic decision I'm sure. On the noisy side of things, I was hooked on Pharmakon's Abandon for a long time. Also, I think metal will always be a big influence, even if not having a big mark on the AVOIDANT sound. I mostly listen to metal and hardcore, and I recall constantly coming back to Black Breath and Altar of Plagues when I was assembling Songbook.

11.How has your home country of Portugal reacted to your musical sound?
11. I guess it hasn't reacted that much, there's a vital group of people experimenting here, but the local blogs and zines hardly ever pick up on people like me. But if I could improve one thing, it would be a broader showcase of laptop oriented music on a live setting, without the dance element. Most experimental gigs occurring in Lisbon are jazz/analogue electronics oriented, I would like to see this multimedia/laptop music scene starting to have more meeting points, with crowds being into them.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
12. I would like to thank you for the questions and the people that read this who enjoy my work. More to come.

Sons Of Death Valley Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Well we were called a westerncore band in a review, which sums it up pretty good.
Other than that we are from Denmark and have just put out our debut album The Day of Reckoning.

2.Recently you have put out a new album, can you tell us a little bit bit more about your musical sound?

We will take you through the darkest corners of Death Valley with our aggressive and straight-forward hardcore rock’n’roll, as we mix it with gloomy and dusty blues.

3.What is the concept and theme you bring out with your song lyrics?
The whole record is about Joaquin Murieta, who is an outlaw. He seeks revenge for the murder of his wife and son, and will stop at nothing to get his revenge.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Sons Of Death Valley'?
We wanted a name that was more than just a name, it had to also give you a feeling about the universe that we have tried to create. So we came up with Sons of Death Valley. And it sounded cool:)

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and alos how would you describe your stage performance?
Well we have played a lot of good shows, but the one thing that sticks to us is that we have an unbelievable amount of energy on stage.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
Right now we are planing a tour in Europe, which is gonna be awesome.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
We are looking, but it has to be the right one. Until now we have done everything our selves and it has gone great. But if the right label comes around, we will be interested.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your album by fans of extreme music?
It has been great, we have received a lot of great feedback. Which is awesome, bur no matter what others say, we will keep on doing what we do.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
It is hard to say, we will just have to see what the future brings.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Well I guess that Metallica, Everytime I Die , Cancer Bats and Comeback kid will be the bands I will highlight.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
We might be one of the healthiest bands in the world or Denmark at least:) We are all working out in one way or the other, running, cross fit and so on. Other than that, skateboarding, soccer, gaming ect. :)

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Go listen to our record, like our Facebook and come to our shows.

See you all in the pit.

Peace
Dan Volquards Christensen

Sadhak/Self Titled/Shadow Kingdom Records/2014 EP Review

Sadhak  are  a  1  man  band  from  Norway  that  plays  a  very  traditional  form  of  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  his  self  titled  2014  ep  which  was  released  by  Shadow  Kingdom  Records.

A  clean  and  retro  sound  starts  off  the  ep  and  starts  getting  heavier  after  a  few  seconds  and  going  into  a  more  traditional  doom  metal  direction  along  with  some  melodic  vocals  and  after  a  few  minutes  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  added  into t he  music  and  they  bring  a  very  heavy  70's  rock/metal  feeling  to  the  recording.

The  second  track  remains  true  to  the  slow  doom  metal  sound  that  is  presented  on  the  first  song  as  well  as  having  a  great  amount  of  melody  and  being  another  long  9  minute  track  like  the  first  song  and  you  can  also  hear  more  of  an  atmosphere  this  time  around  that  almost  brings  a  black  metal  feeling  to  the  recording.

Sadhak  have  a  very  interesting  sound  that  mixes  70's  and  80's  doom  metal  together  with  long  and  epic  structures,  the  production  is  very  professional  sounding  and  the  lyrics  cover   dark  and  esoteric  themes.

In  my  opinion  Sadhak  are  a  very  great  sounding  doom  meal  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  ep.  RECOMMENDED  TRACK  "On  the  Arrival  of  Man".  8  out  of  10.

Exxperior Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the project since the release of the new album?
Hi! There are only about 15 physical Copies of "Killing Entertainment" left .I am happy the feedback is realy good, since the Album is quite weird, due to the tons of guest singer. I just startet a crowdfunding project to release both albums in one amazing Vinyl-Package! Definitely check that out ;)

2.Recently you have released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from your previous releases?
The first one "Call for Sanity" has been a very personal Album. In general the first thing i ever produced. With the second Album i focused on entertaining people with crazy and interesting thrash songs. Horror Metal Sounds (.com) called me a "bold cat" for creating something like a thrash metal adventure. And its probably the best sound i can produce with my little little home studio: One Pc and an 150€ Interface, hahahaha.

3.When I was listening to the album the ,music was mostly old school thrash and then on one of the tracks the music goes almost black metal, was that track included to shock or surprise people?
Everything ment to surprise, somehow. I realy like to do that. "I am your Death" was planned as the atmospheric doom song of the album. some call it black metal, some as death. I wrote the lyrics with my friend Erik (Slaughtered Existence) and they fit perfect to the Riffs. I added some clean guitars and there you go...the black part of the Album ;)

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects you explore with the new album?
I always try to keep it varied. You find some anti-stuff, typical thrash metal lines or stories that are mirroring todays society. Most of the time i just can believe whats going on..Reality is racking my Brain. Oh s***, just blabbered out one of my new  titles ;) haha.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Exxperior'?
I like that question, cause it realy has an origin. I was looking for a non-existing word. Inspired by "experiment" and "experiore" (latin) i chose EXXPERIOR. I added the XX, because of the symbol character and the -OR to keep the Thrash Metal Attitude.

6.In the studio you mostly do the album by yourself along with some session musicians, are you open to working with a full band in the studio or do you chose to remain solo?
Definitely looking forward to work with a whole band. But i will still remain a so called "mastermind", cause i like to fulfill all the stuff that is in my mind. (for instance i mostly create the lyric arrangements, too). Sounds egocentric, but belive me i am not! I work fast, pinpoint and i am impatient. Everything is cool, when i work with musicians that fit together with it.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Exxperior played only three live gigs before the first drummer left us; still friends ;). Munich,Torino and Leipzig had been awesome gigs. We were freaking out such as the audiance. We got broken Toms, Circle Pits around our Guitarist, Lovers & Haters. We played a Toxik Medley, a special Version of Technical Difficulties and covered Dr.Living Dead - yes we liked to surprise and we will!

8.Do you have any touring or show plans once you find a live guitarist?
Once i find a guitarist i start to plan something. I seem to have found the perfect drummer (TRIOPUS) and i got an amazing vocalist (Falk from Bitchhammer).

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
Most Labels are looking for financial success. Me not, so i will try to work for my own. I would be very proud to reach a high level of fame without a label or big PR stuff. It's about Music and Passion and not Money. I just started my Crowdfunding Project, that shall help me to pay an amazing Vinyl Production.
www.startnext.de/en/exxperior-vinyl-produktion

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of thrash metal?
Difficult question. Personal Feedback ist 95% good. (Man, i am grateful for that!) If you combine clicks and likes, the feedback is rather less, but thats ok since its getting more and more - not the other way round, hehe.

11.According to the Metal Archives page, you are also involved with a couple of other bands, can you tell us a little bit more about them?
Yeah, it had been about 8 different Bands. The Explanation is easy: I was moving from town to town a lot. I started thrashing with Hateful Agony from Munich. Nowadays the band leader hates me, since i left the band. But i am in good contact with all the other dudes from the past and still supporting them everytime i can. I gain insight with black metal stuff with SLAUGHTERED EXISTENCE. I am a session musician for STRAIGHTLINE (Crossover) and RICHTER (German Rock). I started playing Bass for TRIOPUS, cause i was thrilled by 260 BPM Grind Death. Damn, i learned how to rock with a bass guitar, there!! RODENT has been another personal project. Its kind of the early Dr.Living Dead - just making fun and sing about nonsense, but still thrashing.

12.Where do you see the project heading into musically during the future?
Wow, thats what's making me crazy everytime i work on songwriting. Shall i go more technical or stay straight? I am not sure, but there is something i concentrate on and i am revealing a little secret now, so pay attention. I like to combine Thrash Metal with a Musical-Atmosphere without losing the aggression and OldSchool feeling. We'll see if it works.

13.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
Everything that shows musical passion can be awesome. It depends on the situation. Sometimes i like Wolfmother, the other hour Havok again and then Jennifer Rush. But here are my latest Metal favourites: Chronosphere, Toxic Waltz, Slaughterer, Razormaze, Thrash or Die and Holy Grail.

14.What are some of your non musical interests?
I used to do any sport. But since i have a fulltime job (Caregiver) i focus on music and hanging around with friends and my beloved Julia. Partying or watching movies. My ultimative hint for you: Bad Boy Bubby.

15.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
Yes! Now i go political: If you oversleep the Democracy, you will wake up in a dictatorship. So go out and scream at every goverment and society! If you just like to stay metal, then thanks for funding my Vinyl-Production ;) Cheers!!

Nervosa Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording and release of the new album?
FERNANDA: Well, people usually think that after the album is out things are a little bit quieter for a band, but that’s the complete opposite! Haha After we recorded it, we had to work on many bureaucratic issues related to the release and also worked hard on a lot of planning to what to do during this process, for example new video, promotion, etc. Right now we’re a little bit more relaxed once the album is finally out at least in Europe  and North America, but there’s still many things to do. We’re now working on a lot of promotion on the album and this involves tony of interviews, and meanwhile we’re working on planning tours, especially in Brazil, South American and Europe! Can’t wait to be on the road for a good while enjoying the result of the hard work before the album was out!

2.Recently you have put out a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from the demo you had release din 2012?
FERNANDA: The musical direction is kind of the same: thrash metal, aggressive and raw! But we have to admit that in a way this album is way different from the EP, because I think it really represents what Nervosa really is nowadays, what Nervosa sounds like, and the reason for that is that when I joined Nervosa, there were some songs ready, of course I proposed changes and added some stuff, including lyrics and vocal melodies, but they didn’t have much of my ideas on them, but this time, it’s pretty well divided between mine and Prika’s ideas, who are the main composers. All the songs this time have mine and her touches and ideas, in all the songs, there are mine and Prika’s riffs, mine and Prika’s lyrics, so it’s pretty mixed, what I think it’s cool! Also, I believe this record is way more mature musically speaking, because we have evolved as people and as musicians!

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the newer music?
FERNANDA: We like to write about human and realistic aspects and subjects. We live in a fucked up world socially speaking, and when we’re talking about Brazil, that’s a little worse, unfortunately this is an unfair and unequal country, so daily we have to face, live and see around many things we don’t agree with, so there’s a lot of hatred and indignation inside of us, so I use my lyrics as my dearest way of expressing myself, of unburdening and spitting out all this bad feeling we hold inside of us because of the unfair things around us! Also, I like to write about more realistic matters because that way it’s easier to make the listeners not only to identify themselves with the situation i’m writing about or with my opinion and also it’s easier to create a debate between me and the listeners which I think is one of the most important roles lyrics can develop, it’s an awesome tool for a debate, even if the person doesn’t agree with what I wrote, I feel happy because at least the person stopped to think about that, so a debate is created, and if there was more debate, our society would be a lot more peaceful and good!

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Nervosa'?
FERNANDA: When I joined Nervosa, Prika had already given this name to her project, but I completely agreed with that, otherwise I would have surely proposed changes for that, but I couldn’t agree more with this name: short, understandable, aggressive and female! Nervosa is an adjective for ‘nervous’, but for girls!

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
FERNANDA: I would describe our performance as very energetic; Each show has a special meaning to me so I play with my heart and soul every time I get on a stage, it doesn’t matter if there’s 1 or 1000 people in front of me! We feel our music very much on stage and honestly we enjoy playing and I guess people can notice that and get excited along with us! Every show is special in a certain way, but one of the most memorable and remarkable to me was when we played the festival Roca N Roll, in Minas Gerais, a Brayilian state! We were a new band, but nevertheless a lot of people who were at the fest knew us and were very excited about see us playing! There around 4 thousand people waiting for us when we got on the stage as the last band at 5 am!!! It was a crazy gig, there was a lot of mosh pit and all our merch was over in a matter of minutes! It was a really cool memory I like to relive in my mind when I can!

6.What are the touring or show plans for the new release?
FERNANDA: We are a band which loves being on the road, and because of that we have toured Brayil extensively, but we never left Brayil for gigs! So our main objective this year after the album is finally released worldwide is keep on playing in new places in Brzil, but we are also already planning South American and European torus! They will definitely happen this year! Hopefully, if the album comes out good in North America, we can try and hopefully get something over there as well!

7.The music has been getting a lot of good compliments from some legendary death and thrash metal musicians, do you feel that is a great honor for the band to have your music liked by some of the greatest extreme metal musicians of all time?

FERNANDA: No doubt it is, and honestly, it’s even more than that, it’s like a dream come true! When you’re a teenage headbanger, especially in Brazil, where metal is not supported very much by the media, government and the mass, that one day you will have a band, and then your metal heroes will listen to your band and know who you are and then they will say something cool about it! So it’s really fulfilling to me, I feel lucky and very thankful about that! And they say this with the bottom of their heart, what is even more special to us, knowing your idols enjoy or at least respect your music is something that there’s no price you can pay for that, it’s worth all your hard work!

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to the new album by fans of thrash metal?
FERNANDA: The feedback has been really good so far, better than I expected! All the reviews from the media around the world and also the feedback from fans have been really cool and supportive! Who knew us before is really proud of our work and who got to know us now have showed a lot of respect, which is also very important! I am really happy  to feel I am doing something for metal, I’m making music that people like and that make them feel well the same way that my idols’ music did to me! So i#m reallx accomplished and I can’t wait to be on the road playing all these songs so people can feel the real energy behind the songs the best way possible: live!

9.What musical direction do you see the band heading into during the future?
FERNANDA: I think we tend to be more and more aggressive with time, especially because of our currently influences! I notice that the 3 of us girls in the band have been listening to a lot of death metal, so I think in the next record there will be a little bit faster and more aggressive thrash, very influenced by death metal, but nothing so different that our die hard thrash fans will dislike, our thrash roots will always remain strong and evident!

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your newer music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
FERNANDA: I have a very wide taste for metal and I listen and support almost all genres, but besides that I listen to a lot of blues and soul, but my main influences and preferences lie on thrash and death metal ahd that will always be what I listen the most! Bands like Slayer, Sepultura, Nuclear Assault, DRI, Sadus, Coroner, Oxbituary, Death, Deicide and Morbid Angel are bands that influenced me and still do when I write songs for Nervosa!

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
FERNANDA: My second greatest passion in life is the movies, that’s the second greatest and finest arts to me! Everytime I can I go to the movies or save some time to appreciate this art! I think just like music, cinema has the capacity of transporting you to another world, to live new experiences and to debate and grow as a human being! Besides that, I love travelling! It’s one of the most refreshing things in life and it always makes good to me!

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
FERNANDA: I just would like to thank for this interview opportunity, and just would like to tell everyone who’s reading to keep supporting metal cause all of us, from bands, fans and press, are the only responsible to make this awesome metal culture and legacy to keep on perpetuating through time!

Cave of Swimmers/Self Titled/The Path Less Traveled Records/2014 EP Review

Cave  Of  Swimmers  are  a  duo  from  Miami,  Florida  that  plays  an  experimental  and  progressive  mixture  of  metal  and  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  self  titled  2014  ep  which  will  be  released  by  The  Path  Less  Traveled  Records.

A  very  hard  and  heavy  stoner  rock  sound  starts  off  the  ep  with  all  of  the musical  instruments  sounding  very  powerful  which  also  leads  up  to  some  melodic  vocals  which  also  have  a  70's  doom  metal  feeling  to  them  and  after  awhile  traces  of  latin  music  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  when  the  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  brought  in  the  music  starts  soundign  more  progressive.

As  the  ep  progresses  you  can  hear  elements of  experimental  an psychedelic  music  being  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  music,  while  the  heavier  parts  go  into  a  more  doom  metal  direction  and  every  track  has  a  different  sound  to  them  as  well  as  being  mostly  over  5  minutes  and  on  the  last  track  you  can  hear  elements of  grunge  and  alternative  being  mixed  in  with  the  heavier  metal  sections  of  the  song  along  with  a  small  amount  of  spoken  word  parts.

Cave  of  Swimmers  have  a  very  original  sound  to  them  and  they  do  not  belong  to  a  particular  genre  with  their  style  being  closer  to  stoner  rock  and  doom, th e production  has  a  very  professional  sound  and  the lyrics  cover  everyday  type  themes  along  with  some  of  the  lyrics  beign  written  in  Spanish.

In  my  opinion  Cave  Of  Swimmers  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  stoner  rock,  experimental  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out t his  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE "Hangman"  and  "Cave  of  Swimmers".  8  out  of  10.
