Blessed Hellride Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
We are Blessed Hellride, a Heavy Rock band from Trier, Germany. Established in early 2010, we developed our music step by step to Heavy Rock. A few cast changes, which are propably indispensable in a bands history, left us 5 morons, who since 2012 perform together. Tiny Fuel at the vocals, Jack Stoned at the lead Gibson, The one and only goddamn Oos at the rhythym guitar, Zed Undead is our Weapon of Bass Destruction and the Cptn takes over the drumkit. Our music is true and hard Heavy Rock with groovy riffs, catchy hooklines and stories, which are drowned in whiskey, asphalt and feeling. The selfgiven motto „Booze n Roll“ says it all!

2.A few months back you had released a new ep, how would you describe your musical sound?
Well, we often get ask this question. We like to descripe it as: HULK SMASH LITTLE MAN! If you don´t understand this message, turn up the volume and listen again!

3.Can you tell us a little bit about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
As in question one already indicated, we love topics like the easy way of life, freedom and brotherhood. We decided once, to bring a good mood and an easy spirit to our listener, because people walked through enough in life, they have to handle with. We even have the one or another sad or serious topic in our songs, but the main focus of attention is due to „take it easy“, enjoy your life“ and „let the good times role!“

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Blessed Hellride'?
The name Blessed Hellride means what it means. There are no secret hints or profound meanings hidden in. To be honest, we sat in Jack´s living room, confering about a catchy bandname. The allmighty and lovely Oos and Jack stood in front of Jack´s CD rack, proposing several names to the rest. Black Label Society are one of our idols we are inspired by, so naming our band after our favorite BLS Album seemed legit to us. Thats how the band name comes to life.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
The best shows were always that ones, where the audience celebrates our music with us the most. In our case this were the Metallergrillen 2012, Rockenhausen, Germany and a show in Deidenberg, Belgium, in a shed called „Take Five“.
To describe our stage performance is barely impossible for us. We don´t see us, you know? Everything we can say, is, we do not dress up, we have no concept show and we try not to puff ourself up. The 5 guys on the stage are the same you meet on the bar after the show. We have fun playing and celebrating with the audience, not more, not less.

6. Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
The next shows we play is on 29th April. at the Monopol, Leiwen, From Dusk Till Dawn party with livestrip. Is an institution we play once a year. Afterwards there will be the „Metallergrillen Warmup“ in Diehlkirchen on the 17th of May and on the 2nd August we perform at the Festivalkult in Porta Westfalika. On the 30th of August we perform at the FARK, Reden and the 27th Septembre we play in Düsseldorf. More shows are not confirmed at the moment. We are looking for another festival in Summer, but our main focus is due to the recordings of our album in late 2014. Therefor we are organizing financial concepts and searching for labels at the moment. In summer we will try a crowdfounding project to get money for the records. You will get all informations about when you like and subscribe to our facebookpage (www.facebook.com/BlessedHellride) or to our newsletter on our Homepage (www.Blessed-Hellride.com). We appriciate every support we can get!

7.The new ep came out on Monster tapes, can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Sorry, but no, we can not. We published our EP online with the Newcomernetwork in Germany. They work together with Monstertapes. They are a pure distribution label, only for online distribution. They brought our music to Amazon, Itunes, Musicload, Spotify and so on. That´s all we know about.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal and rock?
The main feedback we ´ve got till now are from ths US and from Europe. But it seem to be one guy from India, who is an outstanding Blessed Hellride fan. That totally suprised us and we appreciate a lot!
Most non-german feedback came from Belgium, where we made good friends by performing there several times. A fact we are proud of is, that in Amsterdam, the bartender of the bar „Excalibur“ - which is probably a household name for one or another – likes our music and plays it, as far as we know.
Feedback we got till now is without exception positive.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We are always balancing on a narrow ridge between Hard Rock and different subgenres of Metal and are always trying to keep our songs interesting and convincing at once. That are the parameters we considering, writing our songs. This is the way we will go further. There are no ambitions to add modern, electronic or core parts to our sound. Oldschool is the keyword - that is significant!

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
The name Blessed Hellride reveals apparantly one of our main influence from the beginning. Beside Black Label Society there are Clutch and Down influencing our Style the most. We try to pick up the aspects we like from all three and mix up our own sound.
The question for musicstyles influencing us isn´t that easy to answer. We are five guys who came from 5 different subgenres of Rock. Beside Jack, with its roots in Classic Hard Rock and Tiny with Southern and Hard Rock roots we combine the gracefull and glorious Grindcore Junky Oos, the Psychobilly Punk Zinni and Mr. Progressive Rock Captn to the bunch of meanings, we are. It´s needles to mention the discussions while songwriting, but thats our recept to wirte our songs.
To name our ideals concretly: our guitar fraction is manly influenced by Zakk Wylde and Randy Rhoads. Tiny seems to orientate itself to Ronny Van Zant, Phil Anselmo and Big Daddy Rich while Zinni looks forward for Geezer Buttler. Captn smashes the sticks on the drumheads in order to reach Tommy Cluefetos, Simon Phillips and Maik Portnoy.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Some of us are outstanding tattoo freaks and its on you to guess who. Two are sharing a youtube-gaming-channel or having a second band. It is an outstanding issue for The unconquerable and magnificent Oos, to have private time with its first lady, its couch! Jack loves to trim the bushes in its garden - Good for us, so we have a nice place to have barbecue and drinks in summer, where we can stratch a point and enjoy life. We hang together most of our spare time. Cozy evenings at the bar or chilling in the rehearsal room are items of our agenda.
12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
At first we want to thank you for the chance to get this interview. We had a lot of fun to answer your questions.
We use this part to set a call up to everyone who feels adressed! We recognized, that small concerts with new bands not get recognized anymore. It seems to be „out of fashion“ to give small bands a chance and it seems also that the audience became lazy to explore new music. We ask everyone who reads this to support lokal and underground bands. In every region you can consume possible good music of three or four Bands once a week for low money.

Concluding it rests to say thank you for reading, take it easy and let the good times role!

Booze n Roll forever, Motherfuckers!

Pilgrim/II: Void Worship/Metal Blade Records/2014 CD Review

Pilgrim  are  a  band  from  Rhode  island  that  have  been  featured  before  in  this  zine  with  a  musical  style  i  would  describe  as  being  traditional  doom  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  album  "II:  Void  Worship"  which  will  be  released  by  Metal  Blade  Records.

The  album  starts  out  with  an  intro  which uses  guitar  riffing  and  leads  along  with  some  melody  and  after  the  intro  the  music  goes  into  a  heavy  doom  metal  direction  and  a  few  seconds  later  melodic  vocals  are  added  into  the  recording.

When  the  album  goes  into  other  songs  the  music  starts  going  for  a  more  old  school,  traditional,  melodic  and  epic  approach  to  doom  metal  as  well  as  bringing  in  a  dark  and  evil  atmosphere  and  all  of  the  musical  instruments  have  a  very  powerful  sound  to  them  and  as  time  goes  on  by  clean  playing  is  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  they  also  focus  more  on  heaviness  and  do  not  bring  much  in  the  way  of  solos  and  leads.

Pilgrim  continue  their  old  school,  traditional  doom  metal  sound  from  their  previous  recording  while  also  adding  in  a  more  evil  atmospheric  along  with  epic  elements  to  create  a  very  dark  and  interesting  sounding  doom  metal  record.

Song  lyrics  cover  Occultism,  Sword  And  Sorcery,  Doom  and  Destruction  themes,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy,  dark  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording  along  with  some  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  this  is  another  great  sounding  recording  from  Pilgrim  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  traditional  doom  metal,  you  should  check  out  this  album.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Master's  Chamber"  "In  The  Process  Of  Evil"  and  "Away  From  here".  8/5  out  of  10.

Vengeful Ghoul Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
VG: Yes, of course.  We are excited these days. Our debut is on sale newly and many positive feedbacks and criticisms ensue nowadays. That gives us morale and extra power.

2.Recently you have released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from your past releases?
VG: This is our first full-length record. Our initial purpose by forming the band was playing some heavy-thrash stuff in the school years. Over the years, power metal, traditional metal and heavy/doom began to enter into our style. We aimed a musical taste which thrash metal is placed at the core and it’s covered by power metal and traditional heavy metal . All these should have been served in a cold and modern sound & mixage. And we think that we accomplished this musical goal in “Timeless Warfare”

3.The band has been around for 10 years but so far there has only been one demo, single and album, can you tell us a little bit more about the gap between releases?
VG: We formed the band in 2005 and released the demo “Premier Fury” in 2006. Those times, we were always on stages. We gave numerous concerts and worked hard to develop our stage performance. Those days were amazing because we love to be on stage. Also, the most important factor about that time gap was member replacements. We couldn’t find our companions easily.

4.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the new album?
VG: We can’t say that “Timeless Warfare” is composed in a single concept. Every song has a different story. However, maybe not so directly but, most of the tracks are telling the situation of an ongoing state of war or the song’s story takes place in such an environment. Generally, we like to use metaphorical expressions and fantasy-based, indirectly  story-tellings. Main themes can be mentioned like these; “wars for greed”, “worshipping power&oppression”and “psychological&social situations/problems” Of course, the album wants to give other deeper messages which should be caught by listeners.

5.One of the songs was written in German, what was the decision behind using this language on one of the tracks?
Emre (Vocals): I love the German language and its phonetic character in music. I always try to learn more and wanna improve my German. There are poetries in German language written by me. We decided to melodize one of them and put into the album. So, Schaukelstuhl and its story has been shared with people in this manner. We’re planning to continue composing German songs for our future albums.

6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name ;Vengeful ghoul'?
Emre (Vocals): I was playing in another oldschool thrash metal band, called “ElectrocutE” and “Vengeful Ghoul” was one of the early songs written by me for ElectrocutE. It was the story of a man who is betrayed and murdered by his close friends and seeks revenge after being sent back to the world as a ghoul. In this new group which Senem and I formed, we were writing similar stories about vengeance. We started to call our new band “Vengeful Ghoul”. We loved the name, and so it stayed.

7.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
VG: We used to play in open-air university festivals and we can say that the most entertaining ones are those shows. Students are fervent as we are in the stage. We can describe our stage performance with one word; “dynamic”  . It’s a cliche but we live the sound on stage. We want to move and behave distinctively while playing regarding to the song and its own story which we perform that moment. We like to perform theatrical vocals and dynamic acts on stages. Of course, our behaviours are always triggered by the generous demeanor of audience.

8.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
VG: Yes. In June 2014, we will support Dutch heavy metallers “Lord Volture” for some shows taking place in Holland and France. We want touring as much as we can and spreading our words, stories and feelings to people worldwide.

9.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
VG: Yes we are unsigned and we’re still looking for a label. Some companies were interested in our music after we sent the promo packages, but unfortunately we couldn’t make a deal. We recorded demo versions of the second album and even started to arrange third album’s tracks. We have satisfactory materials for our future albums. We hope that we sign a label and keep on releasing new  works.

10.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of power and thrash metal?
VG: Absolute good. Many worldwide compliments and appreciations are coming via e-mail & messages. Especially, Russian and German listeners are showing a different interest in our album. They’re making exact and stunning analysis for our music. Intellectual comments make us pretty glad. It shows that the listener could get the variety of metal styles in our debut and that was exactly what we wanted.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
VG: We shouldn’t talk big, but we won’t change our style. Mixing classic heavy and power metal with modern thrash metal touches is always our musical aim and what we like to do.

12.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
VG: Of course, there are a lot of artists and bands which put an influence on our music. If we start to write, lines will not fit on the page J But we can say that people can like our music if they are a fan of these bands below;
- Nevermore
- Jag Panzer
- Agent Steel
- Vicious Rumors
- Helstar
- Kreator
- Primal Fear
- Brainstorm
Nowadays we are listening to;
- CONQUERING DYSTOPIA – Conquering Dystopia
- ONSLAUGHT – VI
- SAXON – Sacrifice
- JORN – Traveller
- BEHEMOTH – The Satanist

13.What are some of your non musical interests?
VG: We all like gaming. Volkan (Drums) likes photography. Senem (Rhythm Guitars) likes collecting fantasy fiction stuff. Emre (Vocals) likes writing. Özgür (Lead Guitars) likes boxing and Görkem (Bass) likes aeromodeling.

14.Before we wrap up this interview do you have any final words or thoughts?
VG: First of all, we would like to thank you for this interview. We are walking through our dream currently and we believe that it will become a reality when we share our music with more people. Heavy cheers to everyone in the metal circle !!

Keretta/His Streets Of Honey, Her Mouth Of Gold/Golden Antenna Records/2014 Single Review

Keretta  are  a  band  from  New  Zealand  that  plays  a  mixture  of  instrumental  rock  and  post  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2014  single  "His  Streets  of  Honey,  her  Mouth  Of  GOld"  which  was  released  by Golden  Antenna  Records.

The  single  starts  out  with  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  an  atmospheric  background  which  also  leads  up  to  heavy  and  melodic  guitars  becoming  a  part  of  the  music  and  you  can  also  hear  experimental  sounds  being  added  into  the  music  at  times  along  with  a  small  amount  of  melody  and  leads.

Keretta  take  a  very  experimental  form  of  instrumental  rock  and  add  in   the melody  and  heaviness  of  post  metal  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  on  these  2  tracks  that  are  displayed  on  here  and  the  last  track  is  a  radio  edit  of  the  first  song.

Song  lyrics  are  all  absent  form  this  recording  with  the  music  being  all  instrumental,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  recording.

In  my  opinion  Keretta  are  a  very  decent  sounding  mixture  of  instrumental  rock  and  post  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  7/5  out  of  10.

Metalsteel Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?
BENY: We have just returned from the Frankfurt music messe. We had a lot of fun.
ROK: Otherwise we are working on the promotion of the new album and looking for gigs.

2.Recently you have put out a new album, can you tell us a little bit about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from your past releases?

ROK: It is much more mature than our previous releases. The musical arrangements are more sophisticated and the production is just awesome. We were recording the album all-together for the first time and we figured it out that it is the best formula to do a great album.
BENY: I produced and mixed the album and than we decided for Mika Jussila from Finnvox Studios to do the mastering. The sound combines great production and it really supports the structures of the songs.

3.The music is heavily rooted in the early 80's traditional metal sound, what was the decision behind playing this style and what are your thoughts on metal genres that popped up after the 80's?

ROK: We are influenced by different styles from different eras. It is not just 80`s stuff that influences us.
BENY: Yeah I would say that we like to combine different musical elements. We are influenced by the present climate and environment that surrounds us but yeah we also love some good old school heavy metal.

4.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
ROK: Some of the lyrics are based on philosophical topics and cultural themes. But most of the lyrics on this album are based on personal issues and different positive and negative expiriences in society.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Metalsteel'?
BENY: It is a strong name that`s why we like it but it has no deeper meaning. We decided to use that name when we were kids but didn`t want to change it on purpose because people remember the name so easily.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
BENY: We have had many good shows, some as I recall at this moment: Our first show last week for the TIYR album release was a a blast. It was great to see so many people supporting us. Performances at Metalcamp and Metaldays were awesome etc. Just come and see us and we promise you that you will enjoy:)
ROK: Also the gigs we played with James Rivera over Europe were awesome. The expirences were crazy and also educational at some point. The main thing on our shows is to entertain people and to get them involved in the show so they can interact with us.

7.DO you have any touring or show plans for the new album?
ROK: We are currently talking with some booking agencies so we will see what happens. Hope to come to your city soon.

BENY: It has been positive. People seem to dig our music and that`s  great! We are happy for each and everyone that likes our music and supports us through all these years.

9.Can you tell us a little bit more about the other musical project that a couple of the band members participate in?
ROK: Yeah we have some projects. One of them is Sabbath Judas Sabbath with James Rivera. We play some shows in Europe every year and we always have a great time. Otherwise we are also involved in some different musical side-projects but our main thing is Metalsteel.

10.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
BENY: Now we are focused on promotion of  the THIS IS YOUR REVELATION album as it deserves it.

11.What are some bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
BENY: I like Children Of Bodom, Hardcore Superstar, Pain, Nightwish etc.
ROK: I am more into 70`s music. Currently I`m discovering the music of Gentle Giant, old Yes albums, ELP, Taste etc. Our bass player likes Dream Theater and our drummer Dasa is mainly into old school 80`s heavy metal. We all love Iron Maiden:)

12.What are some of your non musical interests?
BENY: Snowboarding, gym, cycling.
ROK: I like fishing:)

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
ROK: Thanx for this interview and for spreading the word about our music. And I would like to invite the readers to check out our new album This Is Your Revelation. Stay heavy!
BENY: Thanks for the support and see ya on the road!

Sunnata Interview

Interview with guitarist Adrian Gadek of Sunnata!

1.For those that have never heard of you before can you tell us a little bit about the band?

We're a doom/grunge quartet of ordinary motherfuzzers hailing from Warsaw, Poland.

2.Recently you have released a new album, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction of the new recording and also how does it differ from your previous ep and demos?

The official release date is 24.03.14, so it's not really out yet, however we took and shared some copies on our recent European tour. In comparison with the previous records, „Climbing the Colossus“ provides a much heavier and focused sound. It's like getting your intestines twisted and being punched in the face at once. Also we have sort of abbandoned some stoner-bluesy harmonies in favour of exotic-eastern ones, that somehow work for us better now. However, grungy vocals are still with us.

3.Can you tell us a little bit more about the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

The lyrics on the record are in a way the same colour as the music. Which means, they are dark and not really straightforward. They are about being overwhelmed with thoughts/emotions to such extent that you can't function anymore. They are about the search for your inner self, about faith and uncertainty, about the sins and lies that surround us.

4.The band started out as Satellite Beaver, what was the decision behind the name change and also the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Sunnata'?

We decided that „Satellite Beaver“ does not describe us well enough. It suited the more stonerish stuff that we used to play, but since we have decided to drift towards the heavier tunes we knew the name change was inevitable. Translated from sanskrit, sunnata means „voidness“ or „emptiness“.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I'd describe our perfomance as „fuzzing asses“. We always try to put as much energy and effort as it is possible to deliver our best during every show. We seek to produce sounds that break walls and move everone in the audience. The most memorable shows for us would probably be the Desert Fest Berlin, Stoner Ceremony II, or the shows we played in Kaliningrad (hi, Evgeny!) and many more... I can't say if they were the best, it's for the audience to decide.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We've just came back from an awesome tour in Germany and Poland. We had a great time touring and playing together with Samavayo in Cottbus, Wrocław, Chojnice, Gdynia and Berlin. Also, we played in Hamburg, Kiel and on the isle of Fehmarn

Next week, on the 21st of March we organise a release party for our album in Harenda Club in Warsaw. Our friends from MOAFT will support us there.

In the summer we've already booked some festivals and there is still more to come.
Also there is a huge all-European tour being planned for October – November 2014, so follow our facebook page to keep yourself updated.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

We have indeed received some interest, but nothing is settled yet and we're still on the DIY path. Who knows what time will show.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of stoner, sludge and doom metal?

Our promo single „Asteroid“ has received truely incredible feedback from all over the world so we are impatient like kids and just can't wait to see what will happen when the album is finally out.

9.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Not really knowing this is the fun part. Who knows what will arise from the „emptiness“? However, we'll make sure, you'll be trippin' and banging your heads.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We really listen to all sorts of stuff. I've been lately doing lots of Temple of the Dog, Alice in Chains, QOTSA; Szymon loves Pearl Jam, Kings of the Frog Island, Tracy Chapman; Rob is into Clutch, Master Musicians of Bukkake, Beastmilk and Dobi listens to chillout stuff like The Future Sounds of London and also Polish Hip-Hop music (Łona rulez).
And as for the influences I would list The Melvins, Bongripper, Sleep.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Extreme gardening, molecular biology and on-the-road economics.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

I just want to say thank you for everyone who has supported us so far. Check out our facebook page, keep yourself updated, the noise is coming soon.

Thanks for the interview!

Amaze Knight/The Key/2013 Full Length Review

Amaze  Knight  are  a  band  from  Italy  that  plays  a  mixture  of  progressive  rock  and  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2013  album "The  Key".

The  album  starts  out  with  drums  before  going  into  a  hard  and  symphonic  sound  along  with  some  progressive  elements  a  few  seconds  later  which  leads  to  the  music  going  for  a  metal  direction a long  with  some  powerful  sounding  bass  guitars  and  after  awhile  melodic  vocals  are  added  into  the  music  along  wit h some  solos  and  leads  a  few  minutes  later.

When  we  get  more  into  the  album  acoustic  and  clean  guitars  are  added  into  certain  sections  of  the  recording  and  the  band  uses  old  school metal  vocals  and  modern  day  metal  riffing  while  also  having  a  great  amount  of  melody  in  the  music  and  you  can  also  hear  some  psychedelic  sounds  coming  out  of  the  synths.

With  this  album  Amaze  Knight  take  the  old  school  metal  sound  of  the  early  80's  and  mix  it  in  with  a  more  modern  sound  as  well  as  being  very  progressive  and  experimental  as  well  as  bringing  in  psychedelic  and  symphonic  elements  to  create  a  sound  of  their  own  which  also  reminds  of  what  Rush  or  Queensyrche  might  of  sounded  like  if  they  where  formed  in  modern  days.

Song  lyrics  are  a  concept  album  about  describing  emotions,  experiences,  and  considerations  through  a  common  story,  while  the  production  has  a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  album  as  well  as  all  of  the  songs  being  very  long  and  epic  in  length.

In  my  opinion  Amaze  knight  are  a  very  great  sounding  mixture  of  metal  and  progressive  rock  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  those  musical  genres,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Imprisoned  (Shadow's  Past)"  and  "Liberation  (The  Reflection)".  8/5  out  of  10.
