Calling Of Lorme Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit about the band for those that have never

heard of you before?

Calling of Lorme is a metal band that mainly incorporates electro and industrial sonorities. On stage, we interpret our music through a visual and theatrical show.

2.How would you describe your musical sound?

Our sound mixes the power of metal and the martiality of the industrial music thanks to the cutting edge guitar riffs and hammering drums. The electro side of samples brings about a touch of modernity, and blended with more traditional instrumentation (violin, choir ...)
created this particular universe between the old and the modern.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
Strong and recurring issues revolve around the fanaticism, feelings and human relationships. Power relationships inspire us a lot as well as everything that can bring humans to its deviances.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Calling Of Lorme?

The band's name refers directly to the physician Charles Delorme, who at the time of the Great Plague of Marseille invented the mask in the shape of bird's head, to guard against the dangers of the disease. This is a historical reference of our area and of the group's roots. The developed universe therefore follows from this
reference and this name.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage
performance?
We have three significant dates, the first in our area, on the great scene of Jas Rod where we shared the stage with Blazing War Machine (Black Metal Indus, Fr). We also have good memories of our performance at Divan du monde, a beautiful scene of our capital, Paris. Finally, play on a stage at a festival renowned as the Metaldays (ex Metalcamp) in Slovenia completely motivated us and gave us the ambition to reproduce the experience on stages of this magnitude. In terms of our performance on stage, it goes beyond the simple interpretation of the music. We also interpret the characters from our fiction. Wearing suits go in this way and allows each musician
to enter a characteristic personage. We also try to immerse our audience in this world with a play of light that is our own.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
2013 was a big year for Calling of Lorme. We started to provide support for large groups (Hypno5e, AqME, Eths, Blazing War Machine) and we played at Metaldays this summer. We are back from a French tour and have recently released our first album, accompanied by a vidéo clip from a show. Currently we are in a period of reflection to develop our future projects in the best way. But the scene is one of the key issues the group and in period of album release we will not neglect to go meet our public.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of industrial and metal?
Generally we had a good European reception. The public during our passage in Slovenia was present and receptive. We are getting positive feedback from through the album and not just European. We note that public besides the Atlantic Ocean is also interested in our music. But the album comes out on November 4 and it is still early to know our real impact outside France.

8.Are there any other musical projects besides this band?
All of us have our different centers of interest in which we operate elsewhere, but musically Calling of Lorme
remains for the moment our main center of interest.

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?
Making our music more personal, away of the exercise in style "Metal Indus" trying to refresh it in our way while keeping what makes its strength and footprint. And this without forgetting our own identity that we learned to develop and which we would like to highlight.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also, what are you listening to
nowadays?
Each member has their own influences and musical history. The compositions come from Dorian, our drummer, so our music mainly result of his own influences. But we can see that the personalities of each musicians feed his writing and this is how the influences of each can also be revealed.Together we have a very big playlist but to be fast this recent times Jo, our bassist, is listening in loop the last album “Asa” of Falkenbach, Seth, our guitarist, musics of Shaka Ponk and Kavinsky, JY has found since our last tour a passion for the Hardtech music, and Dorian listen diferent bands like Hopes Die Last, Die Antwoord and Knife Party.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?
To make it simple we love cinema, the series, video games, graphic design, drawing and traveling.

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?
We would like to thank all the people of the shadows that contribute or have contributed to our development as :Pat 'and the whole team GoMusic France, Jeremy Cas from Blackwave Promotion, Laure Isnard our manager, the Arπs association and Gwen Vibancos illustrator of our album.

Groan Interview

Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

The ‘Power-House Metal Boogie’ collective known as ‘GROAN’ are now a finely tuned five piece. We consist of the following personnel:

Mazzereth = Voice and moves

Mike Pilat = Axe

Jimmy Beedham = Axe

Leigh Jones = Bass

Zel Kaute = Drums

How would you describe the musical sound of the new EP and also how does it differ from previous material?

The sound of the Ride The Snake EP is saturated with what I called the ‘Chris West-Mike Pilat Sound’. Our Stoner elements are still very evident but Mike’s song writing has given the band a more Metallic edge. Chris West's work on mixing and producing the EP has given us a fresh and tasty BIG sound. You can tell that Chris West takes a lot of inspiration from the work of Mutt Lange.

What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new music explores?

In medieval universities, the trivium comprised the three subjects that were taught first: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. In the University of Groan, the trivium consists of Historical Woe, Party and Fantasy. Ride The Snake is a continuation of these themes.

What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Groan?

The name Groan was chosen by our founding father and original guitarist, Dan Wainwright. Dan left us at the very end of last year. I believe that he managed to book a flight on a giant space mushroom, as he was seen orbiting Uranus. I do not know the reasons why he chose the name Groan.

What are some of the best show that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Desertfest 2013 was a blast, I’m not sure if we were on our best form but we gave a solid 5/10 performance. Between you and me, if we gave anything above a 5/10 performance then I would be concerned that we would turn people’s minds into shit. Our London date on our tour last year was also enjoyable, we dressed up as a monkey and three bananas, all the bands were encouraged to dress up, so that’s not our regular attire. The Groan live performance is very ‘HIGH NRG’, and this is usually done in attempt to mask our musical deficiencies. But as we mature as a band I think we’ll be more inclined to “LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING.”

Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Yep, we are playing Hard Rock Hell on the 29th November, then a wedding the day after. This shows how Groan can adapt to ALL gig situations. We have a tour of the United Kingdom sorted for December (details can be found on our Facebook page) and we are putting together a tour of mainland Europe for early next year. Groan are coming.

On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of doom metal?

I get the impression that some DOOM fans think we are taking the piss, which we certainly are not. I guess some DOOM fans don’t want their DOOM to be PARTY DOOM, and that’s fine. We have found that there are plenty of DOOM fans that do like PARTY DOOM. These people want to get down with our vibe even though we are telling them that everything is fucked, I like that. “Hey, GROAN are telling us that we might as well give up as it’s all gone shit, but the that boogie riff is so fucking tasty, let’s get down with it.”

What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Jim plays in a million other bands, Mike has his own studio and plays in a Pantera cover band called ‘ShamterA’, Zel plays drums in a band called Vodun, Leigh is a big deal in the music business and I spend most my time trying not to mentally implode.

What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

The next album will follow the same direction as the latest EP, ‘Stoner Metal Boogie Power Sleaze Rock’. I was considering trying to write a concept album but then I realised that you need a certain level of intelligence and mind stamina to do that. So I have chucked that into the ‘nice idea, never going to happen’ pile.

What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

So, so many influences and not just rock and metal. That’s what I like about the Groan collective, we are not that conservative in our tastes. Leigh listens to some right old shit, but that’s up to him, that’s what he likes, I’m not going to take that away from him. At the moment I’m listening to a lot of Classic Rock as I tend to have ‘Planet Rock Radio’ playing in the house when I’m pottering about, doing the washing up etc. I always have Iron Maiden and Church of Misery albums on my iPod. I can never tire of those two bands.

Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Speaking for myself (now there’s a surprise), I’m into History. I love reading about history and I love watching documentaries about history. I’m currently into historical novels. ‘Blessed is my Blade’ from our latest EP is influenced by the Saxon Series of books written by Bernard Cornwell. I’m also into clothes, so I’m basically a geek that also reads my girlfriends fashion magazines.

Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Thanks for thinking that we were are worthy enough for an interview. I would like to end with a quote by David Lee Roth that I think will empower your readers: “You stick your head above the crowd and attract attention and sometimes somebody will throw a rock at you. That's the territory. You buy the land, you get the Indians.”

Hammer Fight Interview

1. Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Drew: The new record comes out November 12, and aside from that we're just getting our shit together before we hit the road.

2.How would you describe the musical sound of the new album?

Drew:  I'd say it's pretty rad.  A good mix of Rock n Roll, Thrash, Hardcore and Death Metal.  Lots of noodley guitar stuff.  It will make you drive real fast.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the new release explores?

Drew:  Mostly sex, drugs and Rock n Roll.  The harsh reality of being in a touring band, being a scum bag, disappointing sexual experiences.  Ya know, standard stuff.

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name Hammerfight?

Drew:  It was on a list of names while I was trying to name a hardcore band I was in before Hammer Fight.  I just thought it sounded cool.  So did the guys.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Todd: We calculate exactly how much we can drink, and how hard we can headbang without making and mistakes... Then we drink and headbang just a liiiiiiittle bit harder Best show? Basement in Reno, August 2012.  Best show with Ryan? Maybe the Richmond one that I sucked at?

6.Do you have any tour or show plans for the future?

Drew:  We have a short tour that starts on November 12.  We got something else planned soon after that should be announced soon.  Then we should be back on the road in the Spring.

7.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of metal?

Drew:  Pretty good I guess.  A surprising number of our Facebook fans are from Indonesia.

8.What is going on with the other musical projects these days?

Drew:  I'm also in a band called No Holds Barred that never plays. Ever.

Justin: Todd and I have a death metal band called Abacinate. We do shows in the tri-state area occasionally. I'm also playing for Kalopsia and Slasherthroat.

9.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

Drew:  I've already started writing new stuff, so I can say for certain that the next album will be darker, angrier and more overtly sexual.  It will still be tons of fun though, I promise.

10.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Drew:  Metallica, Motorhead, Slayer, Iron Maiden.  The stuff I first got into definitely has the biggest influence.  Plus tons of hardcore and death metal.  Right now I'm mostly listening to Gypsyhawk, the new Motorhead album, Revocation, Ramming Speed, 3 Inches of Blood.  Stuff like that.

11.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

Drew:  I really enjoy drawing stuff, drinking too much and chasing women.

Justin: Drinking too much, eating too much, quoting Andrew Dice Clay lines on a daily basis, and listening to the Howard Stern show.

12.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Drew:  Keep it tucked in, keep it compacted...

Citadel  Of  Chaos"  which  is  also the  last  song  on  the  album  begins  with  some  heavy  guitar  riffs  and  leads  along  with  some bass  and  drums  before  adding  in  some  vocals  before  combing  70's  rock  and  doom  metal  together.

SOng  lyrics  cover  darkness  and  party  themes,  while  the  production  has   a  very  strong,  powerful,  heavy  and  professional  sound  for  being  a  self  released  recording  where  you  can  hear  all  of  the  musical  instruments  that  are  present  on  this  ep.

In  my  opinion  Groan  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  stoner  rock  and  doom  metal  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  band.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Woman  Of  Doom"  and  "Citadel  Of  Chaos".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
